To
make a witch puppet:
1.
Paint polystyrene ball with green paint to form head.
2. Cut strips of brown felt (15cm x 10cm) to make hair.
3. Place felt width ways and cut into it to form 'fringe', leaving
2cm at top uncut.
4. Stick 'hair' round head using double-sided tape.
5. Cut out 'Witch's Hat' (parts 1 & 2) from black felt. (Use
Halloween Witch/Wizard Puppet Template 1.)
6. Glue 'Hat Brim' to top of head, over hair.
7. Make cone shape from 'Hat' part 2 and glue seam.
8. Glue split pin into top of head (through felt.)
9. Tie beading thread onto pin.
10. Using a darning needle, sew thread through middle of cone, out
of top of hat. If necessary, secure in place with all purpose glue.
11. Put small amount glue on inside rim of cone and glue to brim
on top of head.
12. Stick eyes and green pom pom to face.
13. Draw facial features (mouth, eyebrows etc.) with marker pen.
14. Make small hole for neck in bottom of head.
15. Cut a green chenille stem in half. Fold one half in half again.
16. Put small amount glue on folded pipe cleaner and push into head.
17. Cut hands from green foam sheets.
18. Take half green chenille stem and push through wrist of hand.
19. Bend pipe cleaner in half to form arm.
20. Place small marble sized piece plasticine on end of arm (for
weight.)
21. Repeat steps 18 to 20 for other hand.
22. Fold cotton fabric in half to form square. Mark centre of fold
and make a small hole.
23. Open out material and put strip of double-sided tape along edge
of each longer side. (Do not remove backing yet!)
24. Push neck through right side of fabric.
25. Put small piece plasticine on base of neck to hold in place.
26. Take backing off double-sided tape.
27. Place arms on fold line so that hands poke out from fabric edge.
28. Fold fabric in half so that sides stick together.
29. Glue 2 lollipop sticks together to make a stick about 17 cm
long.
30. Glue another stick across to make a cross.
31. Tie piece of beading thread onto each wrist of puppet.
32. Tie thread from head about half way along lollipop stick.
33. Tie arms either side of cross piece.
34. If needed use small amount all-purpose glue to hold the thread
in place.
35. Twist two brown chenille stems together to form broom handle.
36. Cut into a black foam sheet to make 'fringe' (as with hair.)
37. Wrap black 'fringe' around one end of broom handle and stick
using double-sided tape.
38. Wrap a small piece of chenille stem around broom head to secure.
39. Attach broom to hand using Velcro.
Alternative:
To make a wizard puppet
1.
Use instructions above but leave out hat brim.
2. Omit broom but use wand template:
a)
Cut wand from black foam sheets.
b) Stick pieces of white card or foam sheets to each end.
