  You Can Make: Weather Chart & Weather Symbols
 

What You Need:

Mount board
(84cm x 59cm)
- blue

Foam sheets – selection of
bright colours

Chenille stem

Scraps of felt

Strip of card
(84cm x 3cm)

Stiff card
(30cm x 30cm)

Permanent black marker pen

Small piece
white paper

Double sided
tape

Velcro

Scissors

Split pin

Stapler &
staples

    How To Make
         
   

Sunshine symbol - The SunTo make a sun (sunshine symbol):

1. Cut out sun pieces from yellow foam sheets.

(Use Weather Chart Templates - Symbols 1 & 3.)

2. Cut out sunglasses from black foam sheets.

(Use Weather Chart Template -
Symbols 1.)

3. Stick pieces together using double-sided tape.

4. Draw on mouth using a permanent black marker pen.

   
   

Raining symbol - UmbrellaTo make an umbrella (raining symbol):

1. Cut out two 'Umbrella 1' shapes from foam sheets.

(Use Weather Chart Template -
Symbols 1)

2. Cut out one 'Umbrella 2' shape from a foam sheet.

(Use Weather Chart Template - Symbols 1)

3. Stick two large pieces together to make an umbrella shape.

4. Stick small piece on top of join using double-sided tape.

5. Cut out handle from a brown foam sheet.

(Use Weather Chart Template - Symbols 1)

6. Stick handle to back of umbrella using double-sided tape.

7. Cut out three raindrops (teardrop shapes) from blue foam sheets.

8. Stick raindrops to front of umbrella using double-sided tape.

   
   

Snowing symbol - SnowflakeTo make a snowflake (snowing symbol):

1. Cut out circle from blue foam sheets.

(Use Weather Chart Template -
Symbols 3)

2. Cut out circle from white paper.

3. Draw shape on paper using snowflake pattern.

(Use Weather Chart Template -
Symbols 3)

4. Stick paper snowflake onto foam circle.

   
   

Cold symbol - Bobble Hat & ScarfTo make a hat & scarf (cold symbol):

1. Cut out 'Hat', 'Bobble' and 'Hat Band' pieces from foam sheets.

(Use Weather Chart Template -
Symbols 2)

2. Stick 'Hat Band' on bottom of 'Hat' using double-sided tape.

3. Stick bobble to top of hat using double-sided tape.

4. Cut out scarf from foam sheets.

(Use Weather Chart Template -
Symbols 2)

5. Cut small fringe on each end of scarf.

6. Fold scarf in half and staple.

7. Stick hat on top of scarf using double sided tape to hide the staple.

   
 

Windy symbol - KiteTo make a kite (windy symbol):

1. Tie small pieces of felt to a chenille stem.

2. Cut out 'Kite', 'Kite 1' and 'Kite 2' pieces from foam sheets.

3. Stick kite together with chenille stem as tail using double sided tape.

 
 

Flood symbol - Red Wellies in a Puddle of WaterTo make a flood (flood symbol):

1. Cut out boots from red foam.

2. Cut out water from blue foam.

(Use Weather Chart Template -
Symbols 2)

3. Stick boots to water using double sided tape.

4. Draw on details with a permanent black marker pen.

Cloudy Symbol - White CloudTo make the clouds (cloudy and thunder storm symbols):

White cloud

1. Cut out cloud from white foam.

(Use Weather Chart Template -
Symbols 3)

   
  Thunder storm symbol - Grey Cloud With Lightening Strike

Thunder storm cloud

1. Cut out cloud from grey foam.

2. Cut out lightening bolt from white foam.

3. Stick lightening bolt to middle of grey cloud using double sided tape.

Days of the week dialTo make the days of the week dial:

1. Cut out large circle from card.

2. Cut out seven wheel segments from foam sheets.

(Use Weather Chart Templates -
Weather Dial 1 & 2)

3. Stick segments to card.

4. Cut out days of the week and stick onto wheel segments.

5. Cut out arrow from a foam sheet.


(Use Weather Chart Template -
Symbols 1)

 
 

Assembling the weather chart and weather symbols

1. Put a small piece of stick and stick Velcro onto the back of each weather symbol.

2. Take off Velcro backing from seven of the symbols.

3. Stick these seven symbols along the bottom of the blue mount board.

4. Stick a strip of card above the symbols.

5. Fix the dial to left side of the board using a split pin.

6. Stick arrow to right of dial using double-sided tape.

7. Take off Velcro backing from remaining two symbols.

8. Stick these two symbols to the right of the arrow.

9. Write 'Day' above the dial.

10. Write 'Today's Weather Is...' above the two symbols.
