  You Can Make: Weaving Bugs - Dragonfly
 

What You Need:

Large sheet of blue card

One polystyrene ball

Yellow glitter paint

Coloured ready mixed paint

Selection of ribbons and cords

Rainbow paper pack

Sequins and spangles

Junior paintbrush

Craft knife

Dragonfly template

Weaving Bugs - Dragonfly
     
     
    How To Make
         
    Dragonfly template

1. Using the template, cut the dragonfly shape from blue card.

2. Using a craft knife cut wavy slits across the main body and straight slits across the tail. DO NOT cut right to the edge.

3. To decorate the wings make a stencil by cutting shapes from scrap card. Try different shapes (stars, triangles, squares etc). Choose shape(s) you like best.

4. Using a paintbrush, paint the stencil and then press then stencil on to the dragonfly to create patterns on the wings.

5. Cut a polystyrene ball in half using the craft knife.

6. Glue two halves onto head to for the eyes.

7. Glue one large sequin to the polystyrene halves complete each eye.

8. Weave strips of coloured paper, ribbons and cords through slots to complete the body design. REMEMBER to alternate the weaving pattern: Row one begins over, under, over, under. Row two begins under, over, under, over, etc.

9. Ask your teacher if you should design a bug of your own.
