Ralph The Dog Hand Puppet

  How To Make

1. Enlarge the template to your required size and cut out two body pieces from white felt and two tail pieces from black felt.

2. From the brown felt cut out different sized irregular shaped pieces for the dog's patches and glue onto one side of both of the body pieces. Use the picture as a guide.

3. With the needle and thread sew the back and front body pieces together (plain sides together so you can still see the patches) with small running stitches leaving the bottom end open. Sew the two tail pieces together using running stitch leaving the end open so you can stuff the tail.

Handy Tip Tip: For stuffing you could use waste pieces of felt.

4. Glue or stitch the stuffed tail to the bottom right hand side of the body. Sew a length of black marabou feathers to the outside edge of the tail, to give it a fluffy appearance.

5. Cut out two feet from brown foam and glue to the front of the body as per the picture.

6. Cut out the tongue from red foam. Draw a line down the centre of the tongue using a ruler and black permanent pen and paint a small white line to add a highlight to it. Apply glue to top edge of tongue only and stick to the front of your puppet about half way up.

7. Cut out the cheeks from brown foam and glue them onto the front of your puppet so they just cover the top of the tongue. Curl some black chenille stems for whiskers and glue these on top of the cheeks. Then glue a large black pom pom over the centre of these.

9. Stick on the wobbly eyes.

10. Using the template cut out four ear pieces from black felt and two inner ear pieces from pink felt. Sew two lots of two ear pieces together using running stitch, leaving one end open on each ear so you can stuff them. Glue a pink inner ear to the underside of each ear. Stitch the stuffed ears onto the top of your puppet to the reverse side.
