Mrs Easter Duck

  How To Make

1. Put the lid on the box and measure the height from the bottom edge of the lid to the base of the box.

2. Cut out a piece of green foam to fit all around the mache box so that it is the same height as you just measured.

3. Cover the mache box with double-sided tape. Remove the backing from the tape and wrap your cut out piece of foam around the mache box pressing firmly so it sticks. (Do not attach the foam above the lid line or the lid will not fit onto the box.)

4. Draw around the lid onto a piece of green foam. Cut out the shape. Measure the depth of the rim of the lid and cut out a strip of green foam to fit around the rim. Cover the lid and lid sides with double-sided tape. Remove the backing tape and attach your cut out pieces of foam to the lid pressing firmly to ensure they stick to the lid.

5. Push a craft stick into a polystyrene ball and push the other end into the broad side of a polystyrene egg to form the head and body. Paint both with yellow acrylic paint.

6. When dry, cut off the pointed end of the egg, allowing the figure to stand up.

7. Make a hat from felt and glue it onto the head. Cut hair out of foam and glue to the head, below the hat, using the picture as a guide.

8. Attach the wobbly eyes with glue. Cut a slit where the beak is to be positioned. Cut a diamond shape out of orange foam, bend in half and glue firmly into the slit. Add detail to the top half of the beak with a black marker pen.

9. Cut two feet out of orange foam and glue to the base of the egg. Cut out two wings and a tail from yellow foam and glue in place.

10. To make the feathers, cover one side of a yellow foam sheet with double sided tape. Cut into strips then cut each strip into diamond shapes for feathers. Peel off the back of the tape and attach feathers to the body.

11. Glue the character to the top of the mache box.

12. Finally, add accessories by making a bucket and flowers out of foam. Tie a ribbon around the neck and draw on eyelashes using a black marker pen. Glue some flowers onto the hat if desired.
