1. Cut two circles of card approximately 26cm in diameter ( a dinner plate is ideal to draw around for this.)
2. Inside each circle cut out another from the centre approx 17cm in diameter. You will be left with two doughnut shaped pieces of card that will form the brim of your hat.
3. Cut a strip of card 57cm in length x 7.5cm in width. Score a line approx 1.2cm in from one of the long edges of the card. Using a pair of scissors, snip the card at 12mm intervals up to the score line.
4. Bend the card back along the score line to form flaps and create a circle with the card by attaching the two ends of the card with double sided tape, with the flaps pointing outwards.
5. Slide one brim section over the circle and attach on top of the flaps using double-sided tape. Attach the second brim to the underside to cover the flaps.
6. Cut a circle of tissue paper approx 35cm in diameter. Attach to the inside of the hat sides about 1.5 to 2.5cm above the brim using PVA glue. Puff up the tissue paper, using the picture as a guide, so that it shows above the sides of the hat.
7. Attach a piece of ribbon to the outside of the hat with double sided tape. You can also tie a bow and attach with double-sided tape if you wish.
8. Decorate your hat according to your personal taste.
Please note: The instructions provided are to fit an 'average' child's head between the ages of 5-10yrs. Make the card circles larger for an adult or smaller for a younger child and adjust the sizes of the sides and tissue paper crown accordingly.
