Sewing the cross-stitch design:

1. Find the middle of the Aida fabric by folding it in half and then in half again. This is where you should sew the stitch which is marked on the chart as a cross in a circle symbol. If you prefer you can count out to a different stitch and start sewing there. Now you can position the picture correctly.

2. When you start to sew hold a little thread behind the material and cross stitch over this until it is held firmly in place.

3. Each thread comes in 6 strands. Sew all the cross stitches first, using two strands of the six strand thread. You may also find the colour picture helpful. Make sure you always sew the cross stitches so that the top stitch always slopes the same way, as shown in the diagram.

4. After you have finished all the cross stitches sew the outlines, marked as a heavy line on the chart, using back stitch. All back stitches use 1 strand of the 6 strand thread.

Making the bookmark card:

1. Cut a bookmark shape out of thick card then cut the same shape out of a piece of self adhesive felt. Mount the fabric with your finished stitched design onto the front of the card, folding the edges over neatly. Attach a tassel to the top left fold. Stick the felt to the back of the bookmark.

2. Add a length of braid to the top of the card and glue the ends in place. Attach the bookmark to the braid with a craft peg.

3. Finish by adding an outline sticker with a seasonal message.
