Step 1: Print out a larger version of the fruit picture featured above and then trace the outline of the fruit using a Yellow Ochre coloured pencil and 90gsm tracing paper, onto "Ivory" mountboard. Hold all the sheets down with masking tape to prevent movement. You should end up with a sketch that looks similar to the one below:

	Tip: Using a coloured pencil to do the tracing saves the need to erase the lines which would be left if a graphite pencil were used.

Step 2: Lightly apply the first layer of colour using the following: • Deep Chrome for the orange • Primrose Yellow for the apple on the left and the lemon • Madder Carmine for most of the mango • May Green for the pear, the apple on the right and the right hand side of the mango. Leave some areas clear - these will become highlights on the fruit. You should end up with a picture that looks similar to this one:

Step 3: Apply the second layer of colour using the following shades with slightly more pressure: • Deep Chrome again on the orange, also add it to the apple on the left keeping the strokes curved to help form the shape adding some streaks of Bright Red. • Add a layer of Bright Red over the Madder Carmine on the mango. • For the un-ripened areas of the lemon use May Green. • For the mottled areas of the pear use Raw Umber. This colour is also used over the May Green on the mango. You should end up with a picture that looks similar to this one:

Step 4: Again using more pressure, use Deep Cadmium on the lemon leaving areas for the highlights. On the right hand apple apply layers of Water Green and Grass Green, with Sap Green for the lower shadow and around the hollow near the stalk. Use the Grass Green on the pear with a little Water Green near the stalk and a mix of Brown Ochre, Sepia and Light Ochre for the mottled texture. Add Autumn Leaf to the left hand apple, also using it for the darker areas of the orange and over the Madder Carmine on the mango. Sepia and Brown Ochre for the apple stalks, Sepia and Grass Green for the pear stalk.

Step 5: Add streaks of Claret down from the stalk of the mango and to the apple on the left, Light Rust is added in-between the Claret streaks on the mango and Champagne for the highlights on the same apple. Sepia is added for shadows on the lower part of the lemon and apple, and also lightly on the lemon around the raised areas. Use dots of Deep Chrome to achieve the peel effect and highlights on the orange. You should end up with a picture that looks similar to this one:

Step 6: Use Sepia and Raw Umber for the general shading under the fruit and Chinese White to enhance the highlights on the fruit. You should end up with a picture that looks similar to this one:

Step 7: Clean around the drawing with the soft eraser and spray with fixative.
