Hemp Paua Shell Necklace

  How To Make

  1. Decide on the length of your necklace and cut a piece of hemp half as long again.

  2. Tie a knot in the centre of the hemp and thread on a glass bead. Tie a knot at the other side of the bead to hold it in place.

  3. Repeat this process until you have a central panel of eight beads, held in place by knots.

  4. Cut four more pieces of hemp the same length as the piece remaining on either side of the beads. Knot the ends of two of these to the necklace, as close to the end bead as possible. Plait the three pieces of hemp and tie them in a knot at the end.

  5. Form a loop at the end of the plaited hemp and thread on a bolt ring clasp.

  6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 for the other end of the necklace threading a jump ring onto the loop to complete the clasp.

  7. Thread jump rings onto three paua shell beads. Before closing the jump rings, hook them onto the necklace between the knotted beads.
