To frame your favourite picture, choose your own individual presentation from the wide range of mounts and rims that are on offer at HobbyCraft. There are hundreds of different combinations available to match your image, taste and home décor. Measure the part of the picture that you want to display, which can be all or part of the image. Find the closest aperture size from the wide range of single, double, oval or deep conservation mounts that are on offer, using colour to accentuate the design. Try several presentations to see which enhances your image the best; colour can have a dramatic effect on many images, changing the mood and colour tones. The label on your chosen mount will then give you the frame [rim] size that you are looking for. Again try several mount/rim combinations to find the one that suits your image and needs the best. Choose the type of glass (plain or non reflective) that you need to complete your picture and use glazier points to hold all the elements of the picture together. Place a small piece (or two pieces if it is a large image) of Scotch Magic Tape at the top edge of the image (don’t put tape all along, or all around the image as this may make the image buckle). Lay the mount down from the front over the image to ensure that you have placed the mount in the correct position. Press down the tape to ensure good adhesion. Place the glass carefully into the back of the rim and brush out any bits of dust etc. before placing the mount face down and fitting the backing board. Insert just a few glazier points to hold the items safely and have a look to ensure that no bits are trapped between the glass and mount. Place the glazier points all round at approx 70 mm (3”) intervals and then cover the slight gap with brown framing tape to stop dust from getting into the frame over time. Finally place appropriately sized hangers onto the back of the frame approx one third of the way down each side (check that you have the picture the right way up!) and then wire or string across. TIP: Bigger pictures are better hung on two picture hooks to avoid the picture swinging when dusted etc. Stand back and enjoy – both your picture and the compliments from family and friends!
