Cut out main fabric and backing fabric 41cm x 41cm. Lay out the main fabric with the right sides together and the backing on top on either side. Pin and tack in place allowing a 4cm seam.
Remove pins and stitch with a long basting stitch ? this will prevent the fabric from puckering. Turn the bag right side out.
Cut out the lining material 2cm larger than the actual bag.
Tack around the edges then try inside the bag for size. Stitch the seams together.
Pin the lining to the inside of the bag, folding the lining and top of the bag together with a 2cm turning. Pin and tack in place then stitch using matching coloured thread.
Cut 2 lengths each of the main and backing fabric to make the handles approx 50cm long x 10cm wide. Fold in half turning the edges together. Pin, tack then stitch along both edges to give a strong finish.
Place the handles in position and tack them to the outside edge of the bag. Stitch them to the bag on top of the existing seams. Sew across the width of the handles as well to give extra strength.
Steam press when finished.
