How To: Decorate A Christmas Tree
How To Decorate A Christmas Tree

Method

Six steps for easy decorating of Christmas Trees

Stage 1

The most important first step is to decide on your Christmas tree. Do not hurry this as it is important you have chosen one you are happy with. Open out your Christmas tree branches.

If you have the type with an arm with five finger branches at the end open out as shown.

Stage 2

Make sure each layer is alternated as shown here.

Each layer should have an even staggered appearance. This aids the process of decoration.

Layers 2 and 4 should be the same, likewise, layers 1 and 3.

Stage 3 - Lights

Where possible, use two sets of lights, one a shorter length than the other.

Wind the short set of lights around the trunk of the tree, spiralling from top to bottom, making sure you finish with the plug at the rear of the tree, near the power point.

Start the longer set of lights at the top, attaching them to the tip of a branch. In a spiral motion, wind around the tree with lights resting on the tips of the branches. More lights can be used on a larger tree.

Stage 4 - Tinsel or beads

Tinsel will help to disperse a light source. Start at the top and towards the back of your tree, working from the tip to the trunk on each layer.

Stage 5- Decorations

Try to stick to a two colour decoration scheme - it looks impressive and is more simple to do. Decide which is to be the more prominent colour ie. red or gold, purple or silver etc.

Place the main colour on the tips of the branches and the secondary colour deeper into the tree, giving depth to your display.

Continue this all over your tree - if it is standing in a corner or against a wall, do not decorate the back of the tree as it will not be seen.

Beads are good for decoration but are not light reflectors.

Loop over finger tips of alternate branches - over one, under the next etc, like weaving.

Tip

Use two coloured strands of beads, pulling one tighter to give a good effect

Stage 6 - Finishing Touches

Add your chosen decoration to the top of your tree ie. star, angel etc.

To cover your tree stand

Hold on to both ends of the string, pleat up and tie around the base of your tree.

Open out pleats finishing with the seam at the back of your tree.
