Founded in 1939 by Nicholas Kove, Airfix is still going strong today, with popular model kits and an exciting range of ideas and designs, such as the Supermarine Spitfire MkIA Gift Set. Airfix was termed due to their initial production of inflatable toys, where the name was naturally coined. Not long after the Second World War however, the manufacturer moved on to using injection moulding machines, producing items such as combs.
Later, they were approached by Harry Ferguson, a tractor company, who requested Airfix to create a miniature of one of their tractors for promotion. Because making the small tractor was beginning to be a problem, the company made a series of parts, in which it was then put together by workers.
The Spitfire is one of Britain's well-kept and highly-regarded aeroplanes following famous airborne skirmishes such as the Battle of Britain, marking its strengths with sheer, high-performance manoeuvrability and as exceptional defenders against enemy bombers.
