I bought this bird house in store as I wanted to be sure the entrance was big enough for a sparrow. The house is made from balsa wood, so I would strongly suggest painting it with either an oil based paint or acrylic paint to protect it from the rain, I used acrylic and made sure all of the wood even the underside was covered. It’s been in the garden for several weeks, I get lots of sparrows in my garden, but I’ve not seen any sparrows enter it yet, but the dried mealworms I put inside have gone.

Not only did I fall in love with this, took it home, painted it up, but the birds (blue tots) have fallen in love with it too, they moved in within the week. Well made construction and a thumbs up from me and a claws up from the little birdies making home. Wish I could post a photo of it but this review doesn't allow me to.

Perfect for other than a bird box.
I bought it and didn't even see that it was a bird box.
I'm goin to turn it into a Christmas house and fill it with sweets for the children.

I paint for children with autism
I have purchased many of these , I have been painting them for children with autism. They find it visually stimulating and I created one to go at my sons playschool . the money I got from making these and terrariums has gone to buy sensory equipment for his playschool.
As regards to the ease of painting then varnishing on these bird houses. It is a good base for being able to paint intricate details on. I havent purchased a bird house from anywhere else now.
Why?
Because of the price they cost is perfect for the quality of wood used . they are stable and they are fit for any kind of purpose used for.
The hole is the right size for birds to go and build a nest. They look beautiful when decorated and varnished. They are a nice natural colour either way.
They are easy to put up as it has a hook at the back where you put a nail through.
And the great thing is it has a hatch at the top on one side of the bird house so you can access the inside should you need to.

Beautifully made
My 7yr old grand-daughter chose little house to decorate while she was staying. Not fo the garden, but to hang in her bedroom and keep secrets in!! She painted and decorated it, and made a lovely job, I think

Very attractive little bird box ready to paint. Detailed so will take time to paint or you could just varnish it. The opening lid will need to be 'rainproofed' if you intend to use it outside as a birdbox. Otherwise the bird's nesting materials will get damp.

Really high quality product
I have purchased a number of these birdhouses and alongside other paint/paintbrushes/craft items and accessories I have made several birdhouses for family and friends who have been really impressed with the quality. I can't believe they're only £10 each! The white wood allows you to use your creativity to create some really lovely gifts! Absolute bargain, highly highly recommend.
