Great product but allow plenty of time
So this product works well, I've used their other colours before with no issues however if you want really really black buttercream like I did be sure to make it a day in advance. I used it the day before I needed to present a cake and it was grey even after 2 full tubes. I checked the day after and it was black so what I needed but not after panicking for a day!

Great product - would buy again
I took a risk picking this product and it was the cheaper of two edible food colours in stock and I’m glad I did. Gave a great colour and wasn’t too runny, so my buttercream wasn’t affected. Bear in mind that for a dark black I required 2 tubes. This was in roughly 1kg of buttercream used for 50 cupcakes. Would definitely buy again.

Great black colouring for buttercream
This gel works really well at creating a rich, black colour. Start with chocolate icing (cocoa powder) and add the gel a little at a time. Don’t panic that it looks grey - leave it for a couple of hours and the colour will cure/deepen into black.
It also doesn’t make the icing taste bitter like some colourings! Love it.

It’s more grey than black..
Not very impressed with this one, even using chocolate buttercream and sponge to have a dark base colour you still don’t get a hint of black. I tried adding some to plain buttercream but even half a tube of it only turned it light grey sadly. Not very impressed at all.

Great colour
Produced a lovely solid black colour when added to buttercream. Looks grey at first but when the buttercream sets it sets dark black.

Easy to use and the colour matches the tube.
Used to make icing for a recent set of cookies. The ladybirds were exactly as they should be.

More charcoal than black
I used with a fine flower paste. I guess with a very dark colour it will be always hard to achieve as no matter how much gel used (and I used loads) it never passes a certain point therefore only achieving a charcoal type colour. That said, with the use of edible black dust, the desired black I wanted was achieved so this provided a good base. If you want a jet black buy it pre-coloured!

Good product
I haven’t used it for buttercream as of yet however I had to use a lot to colour chocolate when in the other reviews online I had seen it mentioned to only need a few drops so not as pigmented as I expected. Once got to desired colour the product didn’t affect taste or consistency.
