Glowforge Pro 3D Laser Printer

Q&A

  • The Glowforge Aura is the first Craft Laser, letting you unleash your creativity from your home.
  • The Glowforge Basic is the standard home offering for personal printing.
  • The Glowforge Plus is the premium home offering for the ultimate personal printing experience, ideal for small craft businesses.
  • The Glowforge Pro is the most powerful and capable Glowforge model, suitable for big projects, businesses of any size and shared use.

Differences between the machines include:

Speed: Glowforge Aura uses a blue, 6 watt, solid state laser for powerful cut speeds. Compared to the Glowforge Basic and Plus 40 watt CO2 laser, Glowforge Pro uses a 45 watt CO2 laser which lets it cut at speeds up to 12X faster than Glowforge Aura.

Material Size: Glowforge Aura works with materials 12” x 12” size. It can cut materials up to 1/4" thick, and engrave materials up to 3/4" thick with the cutting tray removed. The Glowforge Basic, Plus and Glowforge Pro work with materials up to 18” deep, 20.4” wide, and 2” thick. The maximum printable area is about 11” x 19.5”.
With the Passthrough slot, the Glowforge Pro lets you make oversized prints. It can work with materials 20” wide, up to ¼” thick, and as long as you want. To use the Passthrough slot, you print the first 10 inches, slide the material through the slot, and repeat. That means you can create huge, dramatic products, including furniture!

Laser Class: Glowforge Basic, Plus and Glowforge Aura are both Class 1 lasers (like a DVD player). The Glowforge Pro Passthrough slot makes the Pro model a Class 4 laser which requires the person using it to have laser safety training (included with your purchase). You should not use the Pro in public or around kids without installing the included Pro Shields.

All machines come with a 12-month warranty.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An excellent machine... Ready for business! The Glowforge Pro, with its 45W and pass-through, is really an excellent machine. Very precise and able to produce ready-to-sell hi-quality craftworks, especially if you choose premium materials to cut and engrave. The machine is well done and... yes, beautiful: can stay in an office or at home as a "piece of design", differently from the ugly and huge industrial laser cutters. Super easy to use, it can be suitable to classrooms and STEM as well as with serious business. It is a bit expensive in relation to low quality Chinese cutters, but... you pay what you get, an excellent machine.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fantastic Laser Cutter but location is important! This has been around a couple of years so it's tried and tested. It's simple to use and very powerful hence the price tag. A few considerations before purchasing (the reasons why it loses a star for me): firstly it needs a good wi-fi signal to a network with a good internet connection. This is because you print via the Glowforge website, personally not an issue for me however if you were putting this in an outbuilding/workshop it could be problematic. Secondly, dependent on the materials you are cutting, the fumes can be harmful so you need good ventilation. This is achieved via venting to the outside (usually through an open window) however if you don't want to leave the window open during use (or knock a vent hole through a wall) you will need to buy a filter, Glowforge sell their own, it's a little noisier than the printer (which is not a quiet machine) and is expensive. Lastly is the Glowforge application; like Cricut and other machines you can only use the printer through the official browser based software. So as mentioned if your internet connection or Wi-Fi is down, or their website is unavailable, you have a very expensive and very large paperweight. The software they provide is not very feature rich, though you can pay a subscription for the Premium version which offers extra functionality and higher speed servers to print off.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Top! Top machine! I've been using it for about 18 months and I could be happier: super easy to use, both for my crafting / adv works and for my family. It's so easy that even my teens can use it for their artistic homeworks and gifts. And it's so nice in our house! You only need finding a good position to extract fumes outside a window (we use an holed window glass). Our Glowforge Pro really unleashes our creativity with lots of different materials, normal to be airbrushed or premium ones, wooden or acrylic, leather or cardboard... even food from time to time! Easy, powerful, precise. Recommended.
