Highly versatile effects can be achieved using a variety of techniques, such as layering for rich, vivid colour and smudging for softer look.

The feel of your work will vary depending on the canvas you use. You can use canvas board, watercolour pastel, for more grit. The rougher the canvas the more pigment it grabs; whilst smooth surface will make colours stick together and become muddy.
