Glass Vases Step 1

You can either work on to the glass vases as they are on you can add a background colour by spraying with a coloured spray paint to give you a base.

Alternatively you could pour paint into the glass vase and leave to dry.

Step 2
For the first design you can create a simple floral by drawing a 'c' shape with your posca pen

Step 3
Join up 4 ‘c’ shapes to create your floral shapes and repeat across the glass bottle

Step 4
Add a circle in the middle of the shape and then using the posca pen colour in leaving the centre uncoloured.

Step 5

Step 6
The next design begins with drawing a circle with your first colour on to the painted vase surface although as with the design before they’d both work on the glass or the painted glass.

Step 7
Add your petals with another colour and you can imagine them as elongated teardrops working round the circle. Sometimes it’s easier to imagine and draw shapes to build your motifs rather than focuses on florals.

Step 8
Repeat across the bottle and remember to give the vase a professional patterned finish you can have your pattern working ‘off ‘ the top and bottom of the bottom.

Ceramic Vases Step 1

This pattern uses gouache paints but you could achieve a similar effect with the posca pens, firstly you'll need to paint a rough floral shape- think of a loose scalloped circle to give you your shape

Step 2
Repeat these in different pastel colours across the vase leaving an equal space between floral shapes

Step 3
Add leaf shapes coming from each of the flowers using another colour (darker tones will give it contrast and work well for the smaller leaf shapes)

Step 4

Repeat across the vase making sure your leaves are all heading in different directions to give movement and balance to the pattern

Step 5

Create calligraphy style vases with the posca pens, writing your word or phrases across the ceramic. Elongate your letters to get a calligraphy style.

Step 6

Thicken up your 'downward' strokes by adding another line very close to them, this will also help create a more calligraphy style lettering by having a contrast in the stroke thickness's.
