Tension

22 sts and 28 rows to 10cm, (4in) over stocking stitch on 4mm needles or the size required to give correct tension. Check your tension – if less stitches use a thinner needle, if more use a thicker needle. It is essential to work to the stated tension to ensure success.

Step-2

4th Row. K1, p2, k2, p2, k3, p2, k2, p2, k1. 5th Row. P1, k2, p1, T3B, p3, T3F, p1, k2, p1. 6th Row. (K1, p2) twice, k5, (p2, k1) twice. 7th Row. (P1, k2) twice, p2, MB, p2, k2, p1, k2, p1.

Step-3

8th Row. (K1, p2) twice, k5, (p2, k1) twice. 9th Row. P1, k2, p1, T3F, p3, T3B, p1, k2, p1. 10th Row. K1, p2, k2, p2, k3, p2, k2, p2, k1. 11th Row. P1, k2, p2, T3F, p1, T3B, p2, k2, p1.

Step-4

12th Row. K1, p2, k3, p2, k1, p2, k3, p2, k1. From 1st to 12th row sets patt. Cont in patt as set until panel measures approximately 35 [35:40]cm, (13. [13.:15.]in), ending with 2nd row of patt. Cast off in patt.

Step-5

Main Section: With rs facing, using 4mm needles pick up and knit 75 [79:84] sts evenly along side edge of cable panel. 1st Row. K3, purl to last 3 sts, k3. 2nd Row. Knit.

Step-6

3rd Row. K3, purl to last 3 sts, k3. Last 2 rows set patt. Working in patt as set (throughout) cont until bonnet measures 7 [8:9]cm, (2. [3:3ó]in), ending with a rs row. Next Row. Patt to end dec 2 [0:3] sts evenly across row for 1st and 3rd sizes only and inc 2 sts evenly across row for 2nd size only. 73 [81:81] sts.

Step-7

Shape Crown: 1st Row. K1, (k2tog, k6) 9 [10:10] times. 64 [71:71] sts. 2nd and Every Alt Row. Purl. 3rd Row. K1, (k2tog, k5) 9 [10:10] times. 55 [61:61] sts. 5th Row. K1, (k2tog, k4) 9 [10:10] times. 46 [51:51] sts.

Step-8

7th Row. K1, (k2tog, k3) 9 [10:10] times. 37 [41:41] sts. 9th Row. K1, (k2tog, k2) 9 [10:10] times. 28 [31:31] sts. 11th Row. K1, (k2tog, k1) 9 [10:10] times. 19 [21:21] sts. 13th Row. K1, (k2tog) 9 [10:10] times. 10 [11:11] sts.

Step-9

14th Row. Purl. Break off yarn, run yarn through rem 10 [11:11] sts, draw up and fasten off. Join seam from beginning of st-st at neck edge to top of crown.

Step-10

Strap and Edging: Using 3.mm needles cast on 28 sts, with rs facing, pick up and knit 89 [93:97] sts evenly along front edge of bonnet. 117 [121:125] sts. 1st Row. P1, * k1, p1, rep from * to end.

Step-11

2nd Row. * K1, p1, rep from * to last st, k1. 3rd Row. P1, * k1, p1, rep from * to end. 4th Row. Rib 2, yfwd, yrn, p2tog, rib to end.

Step-12

Work 3 rows more in rib. Cast off in rib.

Step-13

To Make Up: Sew on button. Cover with a damp cloth and leave until dry. See ball band for washing and further care instructions.
