Bob Bobble Stitch

*YO, insert into st, YO draw through (3 loops on hook), YO draw through first 2 loops (2 loops on hook); rep from * 2 more times, YO draw through all 4 loops, ch1. (Note: last ch1 counts as an increased st)

Pattern Notes

Sl st to join each rnd. Bobbles are worked on RS, ensure sl st after bobble is tight and push to front to make more prominent.

Instructions (Crochet)

FRONT

Make a magic circle with 6 sts, sl st to join using larger hook and MC.

Rnd 1: 2 dc BLO in each st around (12 sts)

Rnd 2: *Bob in first st, sl st BLO in next st; rep from * to end. (18 sts)

Rnd 3: *2 dc BLO in first st, 1 dc BLO in next 2 sts; rep from * to end. (24 sts)

Rnd 4: rep Rnd 2. (36 sts)

Rnd 5: dc BLO in each st around (36 sts)

Rnd 6: rep Rnd 2. (54 sts)

Rnd 7: *dc2tog BLO over first 2 sts, dc BLO in next 7 sts; rep from * to end. (48 sts)

Rnd 8: rep Rnd 2. (72 sts)

Change to C1.

Rnd 9: *dc2tog BLO over first 2 sts, dc BLO in next 4 sts; rep from * to end. (60 sts)

Rnd 10: dc in each st around in 3rd loop. (60 sts)

Rnd 11: dc (not in BLO) around. (60 sts)

Rnd 12: dc 30, (sl st, ch4, sl st in next st), dc 29. Sl st to join, cut yarn and secure final st.

BACK

Rep Rnds 1-10 as for front.

Rnds 11-12: Rep Rnd 11 as for front, twice. Sl st to join, cut yarn and secure final st.

Assembly

With C1 and larger hook, sl st front and back of bag together, leaving an 18 st opening centred on the loop formed on the final rnd of the front (sl st, ch4, sl st in one st.)

With MC, make a monkey fist knot, and secure to bag, in line with loop.

With C1 and larger hook, attach to one bag handle and work 10 dc. Cut yarn, leaving a 15cm yarn tail. Thread yarn tail to needle and sew securely to top of bag, attaching it to the C1 edge of the bag and centred at the opening. Repeat for second handle on other side of bag.

With MC and smaller hook, make a 3 st crochet i-cord that is 105cm long. Attach to base of bag handle. Rep with C1 and attach to second handle.

Weave in all ends.

Instructions (Knit)

ROUND PANEL (make two)

Cast on 6 sts using 8mm needles and MC. Join sts to work in rnd.

Rnd 1: k

Rnd 2: kfb in every st. (12 sts)

Rnd 3: *Bob, k1; rep from * to end. (12 sts)

Rnd 4: kfb, k1; rep from * to end. (18 sts)

Rnd 5: k to end.

Rnd 6: (Bob, kfb) 3 times, Bob, k1, Bob, (kfb, Bob) 3 times, k1, Bob, k1. (24 sts)

Rnd 7: k to end.

Rnd 8: *kfb, k3; rep from * to end. (30 sts)

Rnd 9: rep Rnd 3.

Rnd 10: *kfb, k4; rep from * to end. (36 sts)

Rnd 11: *Bob, kfb, Bob, k1, Bob, k1; rep from * to end. (42 sts)

Rnd 12: k to end.

Rnd 13: *kfb, k1; rep from * to end. (63 sts)

Cast off all sts.

SIDE PANEL

Cast on 63 sts using 8mm needles and C1. Join sts to work in rnd.

Rnd 1-4: k to end.

Rnd 5: Cast off 22 sts, cable cast on 23 sts, slip st from RH needle to LH needle and k2tog to close gap and bring st count back to 63 sts, k to end.

Rnd 6-9: k to end.

Cast off all sts.

Assembly

Using C1, sew one round panel to cast-on edge of side panel. Rep for cast-off edge.

Using C1, make a loop centred on one side of the opening.

With MC, make a monkey fist knot, and secure to bag, in line with loop.

With C1 held double, wrap around bag handle 10 times. Cut yarn, leaving a 15cm yarn tail. Thread yarn tail to needle and sew securely to top of bag, attaching it to the C1 edge of the bag and centred at the opening. Repeat for second handle on other side of bag.

With MC, make a 3 st knit i-cord that is 105cm long. Attach to base of bag handle. Rep with C1 and attach to second handle.

Weave in all ends.
