dc = double crochet (US single)

htc = half treble crochet  (US hdc = half double crochet)

sl st = slip stitch

How To Make A Mandala:

Step-1

R 1: Start with a magic loop and ch 3 as 1st tc (US dc). 15 tc (US dc) into the loop. Join with sl st and fasten off. R2: Join new yarn into any ch space and ch 1. Make a 4 y/o puff stitch into the same space and ch 1. Repeat 4 y/o puff stitch and ch 1 into each space around the work. Join with sl st and fasten off.

Step-2

R3: Join new yarn into any ch 1 space and ch 3 as 1st tc (US dc). Tc (US dc) into the same space and ch 1. 2 tc and ch 1 in each space around the work and join with sl st. Fasten off.

Step-3

R4: Join new yarn into any ch 1 space and ch 2. Turn your work and make a 5 y/o bobble stitch (6 loops on the hook) and ch 1. Repeat bobble stitch and ch 1 in each R3 ch 1 space around the work. Join with sl st and fasten off.

Step-4

R5: Turn work back right side facing and ch 4 as 1st tc (US dc) plus ch 1. Tc (US dc) into the same space. Ch 1. Repeat tc, ch 1, tc, then ch 1 around the work. (US dc, ch1, dc, then ch 1)

Step-5

Join with sl st and fasten off. R6: Join new yarn into any ch 1 space between ‘V”s of R5. Ch 5 as 1st dc (US sc) plus a ch 4. Dc (US sc) into the next space between ‘V”s and ch 4.

Step-6

Repeat dc (US sc), ch 4 around the work. Join with sl st. DON’T fasten off. R7: Ch 1 as first dc (US sc). Htc, 4 tc, htc, dc into the loop. (US hdc, 4 dc, hdc, sc)

Step-7

Repeat dc, htc, 4tc, htc, dc into each loop. Join with sl st and fasten off. (US sc, hdc, 4 dc, hdc, sc)

Step-8

R8: Join new yarn into any space between R7 dc’s (US sc). Ch 1 and make a 4 y/o puff stitch into the space. Ch 2 and skip 4 spaces. Dc (US sc) into the space between your R& 2nd and 3rd tc (US dc) stitches. Ch 2 and repeat around the work. Join with sl st. Fasten off.

Step-9

R9: Join new yarn into any ch 2 space. Ch 3 as first tc (US dc). 2 tc (US dc) into the same space. Ch 1. 3 tc (US dc) and ch 1 into each R8 ch 2 space around the work. Join with sl st and fasten off.

Step-10

R10: Join new yarn in any ch 1 space. Ch 3 as first tc (US dc). 2 tc (US dc) into the same space. Ch 1. 3 tc (US dc) and ch 1 into each R9 ch 1 space. Join with sl st and fasten off.

Step-11

R11: Repeat R10. R12: Join new yarn into any ch 1 space. Ch 2 and turn work. Make a 5 y/o bobble stitch (6 loops on hook) into the space and ch 2. Repeat bobble stitch and ch2 in each space around the work. Join with sl st and fasten off.

Step-12

R13: Join new yarn into any ch 2 space. Ch 3 as first tc (US dc). 3 tc (US dc) into the same space. 4 tc (US dc) into each ch 2 space around the work. Join with sl st and fasten off. The pretty shell ruffle effect edging is made across two rounds and is soo easy! Don’t be put off if you are new to crochet and it looks complicated… if you can treble and chain you can make this edging!

Step-13

R14: Cast on new yarn in into any space between R13 4 tc (US dc) shells. Ch 3 as first tc (US dc). Tc (US dc) into the same space and ch 2. 2 tc (US dc) into the same space and ch 3.

Step-14

Skip 4 spaces and 2 tc, ch 2, 2 tc, ch 3 into the same space. (US 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc, ch 3) Repeat around the work. Join with slip stitch and fasten off. R15: Using the same colour yarn, join yarn into any ch 3 space.

Step-15

Ch 2 as first dc plus a ch 1. Tc (us dc) and ch 1 4 times into the R14 ch 2 space. Ch 1 and dc (US sc) into the ch 3 loop.

Step-16

Repeat around the work. Join with sl st and fasten off.
