Project and how-to make instructions by Cal Summers

This super-simple scrapbook layout uses a little sewing skill but don’t worry, if you’ve not got a machine, you can can draw the stitches on instead!

You will need

select your items and add them to your basket below.

How to make

Top Tip!... If you want, you can ink the edges of the paper for definition – I used a black ink.

Step 1

Take a sheet of white 12 x 12 inches white card – this will be your backing sheet. From the Christmas Woodland 12 x 12 inches paper pack choose a piece of patterned paper for your next layer – I used a white sheet with gold stars. I cut this into a piece 11.5 x 11.5 inches and adhered it with double-sided tape to the middle of the white backing card.

Step 2

I then used my midi sewing machine to run two lines of stitching around this patterned paper and white card sandwich. The line doesn’t have to be perfect, so don’t worry if the lines aren’t completely straight. Don’t have a machine? You can get the same effect with a good black pen!

Step 3

Choose another piece of patterned paper – I chose the green with white and gold foil blobs – and cut this to 10.5 x 10.5 inches square. Again, ink the edges if you wish to. Adhere this on top of your stitched piece in the centre with double-sided tape and once again run around the paper with your sewing machine.

Step 4

Use a two-inch circle punch to cut 16 circles – I punched two circles from eight different papers. Ink the edges of the circles and leave to dry. Lay two matching circles on top of each other, before sewing down the middle, leave the long thread tails at either end. Gently lift the top circle on either side of the sewn line, so that they’e raised a bit like butterfly wings.

Step 5

Use the circle punch once more to cut three photos into circles.

Step 6

Glue each of the circles onto the backing layers as in the photos so you have three lines of four “items”.

Top Tip!... If you want to add a bit of a golden flourish you can add some gilding flakes in areas you wish to highlight.

Step 7

As a finishing touch I added the wooden alphabet letters to form my title and glued on white snowflake confetti.
