How to Create a New Home Card

Difficulty Beginner
Budget £30+
Time < 1 hour

Creating your own background for cards is super-easy with a helping hand from Artiste's new marker pens. We've used a selection of pens to create the sky background of our new home card, simply by layering up strokes of different tones of blue. This technique could also be replicated to create a grassy or desert background.

How to make

Step 1

Take an 8 x 8”card blank and trim down to create a top folding 5 x 7” card. Fussy-cut a cloud shape approximately 4cm down from the centre crease. Use the leftover cardstock to fussy-cut two more clouds – another 4cm and the second 3cm deep.

Step 2

Attach a 5 x 7” piece of acetate to the inside of the card blank securing in place just below the crease on the front of the card. Fix the remaining 4cm deep cloud panel at the bottom of the acetate panel, making sure to line up the flat base of the cloud panel with the back of the card. Attach the smallest cloud panel at the top using 3d foam pads.

Step 3

Create a sky background using Artiste dual-tip markers, use three different coloured markers to draw lines across a panel of white paper, continue to draw the lines over and over until you achieve a sky-like effect.

Step 4

Stamp the house onto white card then colour in with the markers, use the co-ordinating die to cut out the house.

Step 5

Stamp the balloon strings then fussy-cut these and set aside. Die cut five balloons and colour each one using the markers once more.

Step 6

Glue the house to the balloon strings then attach all of the balloons to the string tops; use foam pads to secure some of the balloons to create dimension.

Step 7

Adhere the completed piece in place on the card front by gluing the balloons to the clouds at the top of the card.

Step 8

Stamp out the sentiment on to a scrap piece of cardstock then trim down to a thin strip. Fix in place on the bottom cloud panel.
