Smooths canvas
I never knew this was needed before painting in oil paint to prepare the canvas. Now that I’ve used it I can see a great difference, my painting looks really smooth and the canvas texture underneath doesn’t show thanks to the gesso.

Great for priming, not so great for real texture
I bought this wanting to prime my canvas and then build texture to paint on later.
It primes great and when trying to add texture it worked and all looked great, but after leaving to dry the texture had melted down a bit and was much more subtle. Much less peaks and troughs than I’d hoped for.
I actually still liked the texture it gave as it shows up almost like highlights when scraping paint over the top for an abstract look, but if you’re looking for something that creates real definition and raised relief, this product isn’t it.

Great value for money
This product is great value, in an easy squeeze tube, suitable for all media and drys quickly, I love textured surfaces to work on and this gesso is ideal for leaving brush marks when dry, or you can lightly sand to a smooth finish, great value product and a great surface to work on.

First time use of Gesso
I wanted to paint a glass jar to match some curtains for our new house. I knew I'd have to use acrylic paints so searched online for advice and found I also needed to apply Gesso first to ensure the paints adhered to the surface. The Gesso supplied by Hobbycraft was a good buy. It worked very well although I learned that it's best to clean the glass with alcohol to ensure it's grease and adhesive-free before applying the Gesso. It took three coats but there was plenty left for other projects afterwards.

Good coverage and true colour
Great quality brand. I use this product mainly with my journaling, it has good coverage, dries quickly and can then be stamped over, drawn over etc
I’ve also used it to apply a base coat to pieces of MDF and it covers well.

Fabulous product
Great, smooth coverage over all sorts of surfaces. Is a bright white creamy gesso which I buy regularly, especially represents great value at half price. I love it!
