Product description

This Tamiya British Chieftain Mk. 5 Tank Model Kit is a fantastic premium quality 1:35 scale plastic model kit. Highly detailed, this is an armoured tank vehicle used by the British.

First announced in 1970, the Mk. 5 was the main type of Mk. in service in the mid-1970s. Further engine modifications brought the power output up to 750 bph, with consequent improvement in overall performance. Soon, revision of the ammunition stowage arrangements enabled 64 rounds to be stowed. Splash plates were added on the glacis as well.

This model can be built using the simple step-by-step instructions.

Please note that paint and glue are not included in the kit.

  • Size: 21.6 x 35.6 x 5.7 cm (8.5 x 14 x 2.2 inches)
  • 1:35 scale
  • Plastic model kit requires assembly and optional painting
  • Suitable for ages 10 and over
  • Glue, paint and modelling tools not included

Rated 4 out of 5 by from good value for money This is an old model dating back to the mid 1970s. To put that in perspective, I was 17 years old when I first built the Chieftain and now I'm 61 so I've just built another one. Its still very nicely moulded, with no flash present and about as accurate as its possible to be. Evidence that this model was originally motorized is still there on the lower hull in the form of screw and switch holes still present. Many Tamiya tanks from this era were sold as motorised but rarely worked as they were supposed to, if at all, so not having this feature is no loss and keeps the cost down. There are no photo etched or resin detail components supplied but then I don't think this model needs any. Newer Tamiya tanks in this scale costs about double or even more. That makes this model good value for the money. Its a good model for the beginner or expert modeller and builds into a fine model.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic model kit I was really surprised with this kit, it is well detailed and looks great when it's all put together. The instructions are simple and clear to follow, I jumped into the deep end buying this kit as a beginner, but felt comfortable assembling it. Will definitely be buying more of these in the future

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Brilliant kit at a brilliant price! One of best kits pound for pound for pound that you can buy. A superb kit from Tamiya as always - a large kit complete with two crew figures. If you have never made a tank kit before this is a superb model to start with.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from First class details I really enjoyed doing this model, the details are very good but the only thing I found was the idler shaft is not strong enough to support the front wheels when the track is on

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My son loved making this kit. My 11 year old son saved up and bought this kits to do over a rainy Easter holiday. The Tamir kits are good value for money and so detailed. Thanks
