Student grade, like most Derwent products
These worked ok in an emergency, but they wouldn't be my first choice. They are student quality, not professional artist quality. The charcoal is full of scratchy particles that leave scratches rather than marks on the paper. Sharpening them is a nightmare: this is the third time I've bought this product and every time it's the same: you get to use maybe one half of the length of the product, because the charcoal core is always so broken that you have to sharpen at least a centimetre to find a usable point. The tips are just repeatedly loose broken fragments. Whether that's because they are badly made or badly handled in-store I don't know. I bought them because I ran out of charcoal and had a deadline to meet, but these would definitely not be my first choice.

Derwent charcoal pencils
These pencils are fantastic because it allows me to have a much more specific type of Mark making in my drawings which are specifically charcoal.
I am a professional artist so it’s important they work well .
Even BETTER; they are in their own tin , which keeps them contained and protected ! More than that they have their own pencil sharpener which means i don’t have to go looking for one !
An excellent product for sure.

Avoid !
These pencils are sold with a useless sharpener. So i bought other size sharpeners that are also non effective because the wood is too soft and the pencil too small. I had to sharpen with a stanley blade. Complete waste of time and money !

Just cannot stop using these charcoal pencils, love the way the different hardness helps give a rich image. The tin and sharpener are a nice touch.

These charcoal pencils are the best pencils I've ever used!
These charcoal pencils are easy to blend and doesn't give a smudged look to my drawings.
They have a good grip and draws smoothly and effortlessly with little smudge.
Overall they're the best charcoal pencils I've ever used. They have made my drawings look more amazing and they're great for drawing eyes!
I especially like the darker shading it brings to my drawings. I'm so glad that I found them at Hobbycraft!

This product completely changed my perception of art using charcoal
Having always veered away from using charcoal, I recently made this purchase for use at an art class. After initially reluctantly trialling it in my sketch book, I discovered that it is a fantastically versatile product, presented beautifully and exactly what I needed for the charcoal class. After some practice applying the charcoal using different skills, I turned out the best piece of art I have ever completed and was so proud! I would highly recommend this charcoal set to any level artist! Thankyou for reigniting my passion!

Perfect range of charcoal
Great range of charcoal in this set. I was also delighted that the pencil sharpener worked so well and did not clog up as others I have used with charcoal pencils.
