WEEE Guidelines

Waste Electrical & Electronic Equipment

In the UK we throw out over 1m tonnes of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) a year and it ends up as landfill.

Most electronic waste is toxic, harmful to the environment and to human health so it is important that these products are recycled or otherwise disposed of safely.

All new electrical products will carry a symbol of a crossed-out wheelie bin. This is to remind consumers that the product should be disposed of carefully and not thrown out with your general household waste or in your household recycling bin. Look out for this symbol.

WEEEE Symbol - Electrical and electronic items should not be disposed of in your wheelie bin, but should be recycled

You Can

Recycle by taking the WEEE product to your local designated collection facility. This would normally be your local civic amenity site (recycling centre). To locate your local site, contact your local authority at

If you are purchasing a replacement electrical or electronic item at Hobbycraft we will take back your old equipment free of charge.
