Right and Left hand panels
Round 2: (yarn B) turn: ch5 (counts as 1tr and ch2), *(3tr, ch3, 3tr) in next ch3 space, ch2* rep *to* once more, 1tr into top of ch3 from round 1.
Round 3: (yarn C) turn:ch3 (counts as 1tr), 2tr into ch2 space, ch2, (3tr, ch3, 3tr) in next ch3 space, ch2, 3tr in next ch2 space, ch2, (3tr, ch3, 3tr) in next ch3 space, ch2, 3tr in last ch2 space.

Continue in the same way until you have worked the same number of rows as were worked in rounds for the back.

Sleeves (make 2)
Work in the same method as the back without working the final 4 rounds. i.e. a total of 8 (9, 10) rounds will have been worked.

Hood
Work in the same method as the back and work the same number of rounds. i.e. a total of 12 (13:14) rounds will have been worked.

Finishing
Replace - Sew the crown, to shape the hood using blanket st. With - Using the same yarn as used in the last round, fold top of the hood in half and sew together to form the top seam.

Replace - Using yarn D dc around all edging of the cardigan.With - Starting at the lower right hand corner with rs facing, join the same yarn as used in the last round to the corner.
Next row: ch3 (counts as 1tr), 2tr in corner space, *ch2, 3tr in next space*, rep *to* up right front and right side of hood, down left side of hood and left front to bottom left corner.

Replace - Using yarn D work 3 rows of tr with ch2 to create the edging for the entire garment. Then dc into every st for the final edge. Repeat this method for the other sleeve. With - Starting at the lower right hand corner with rs facing, join the same yarn as used in the last round to the corner.
Next row: ch3 (counts as 1tr), 2tr in corner space, *ch2, 3tr in next space*, rep *to* up right front and right side of hood, down left side of hood and left front to bottom left corner.
Finally work a row of dc in the same colour as used for the last round/row around the edge of the whole cardigan and hood, and around each cuff.
Using a tapestry needle sew in the ends.

Row 2 : chain 3 (counts as 1 tr), then work 1 tr into the stitch at the base of the chain 3, *skip 2 st’s, then work 3 tr in the next st* - rep *to* until 3 sts of dc remain, skip 2 st, work 2 tr’s into the last dc and turn.
Row 3: ch 3, you will be working your st’s in the spaces between the tr groups from the previous row, work 3 tr into the first space, *work 3 tr into the next space* rep *to* Fasten off lime.
Repeat rows 2 and 3, changing colour on each row 2 in the following sequence:light purple, teal, mixed, pink, lime, until the work measures 72cm (ending with lime).

Finishing
Join lime at one corner and working along the side edge, work 3tr in the space at the end of each row 3. Fasten off at the end of this side. Rejoin lime to work the other side edge in the same way. Finally work one row of dc in lime evenly around the whole blanket, working 3ch at each corner.

The Main Section
Using 4mm hook and yarn C ch 70 and sl st to join round.
Rep round 1 and 2 in the following colour sequence, working 2 rounds in each colour and changing colour on every round 1:
*D, A, B, E, B, A, D, C* rep from *to* once, then work D, A, B, E, B, A.

Round 3: Using yarn D, sl yarn through where you finished the last round, ch2 (counts as a st), *2 tr, 2tr in next st* rep from *to* to the last 3 sts, 3 tr, sl st to join to top of the ch2. (24 sts).
Round 4: ch2 (counts as a st), * 3 tr, 2tr in next st*, rep from *to* to the last 3 sts, 3tr, sl st to join to top of the ch2 (29). Break the yarn and thread though the st to secure.

Round 5: Using yarn A, sl yarn through where you finished the last round ch2 (counts as a st), * 4 tr, 2tr in next st*, rep from *to* to the last 3 sts, 3tr, and sl st to join to top of the ch2 (34).

Beanie Hat
Yarn Type: Women’s Institute - Soft and Chunky.
Shades Used: (yarn A) neon coral x 1 , (yarn B) fuchsia x 4, (yarn C) purple x 3.

Edging (worked sideways)

Using 4mm needles cast on 25 sts.

Row 1 (RS): ksl1, knit to end.

Row 2: Cast on 5 sts, k these 5 sts, k to end. 30 sts.

Row 3: sl1, k3, [yf, k2tog] to last 2 sts, yf, k2. 31 sts.

Rows 4, 6, 8, 10: knit.

Row 5: sl1, k6, [yf, k2tog] to last 2 sts, yf, k2. 32 sts.

Row 7: sl1, k9, [yf, k2tog] to last 2 sts, yf, k2. 33 sts.

Row 9: sl1, k12, [yf, k2tog] to last 2 sts, yf, k2. 34 sts.

Row 11: sl1, knit to end.

Row 12: cast off 9 sts, knit to end. 25 sts.

Rep rows 1 - 12 until edging measures 360 cm.

Cast off, sew in all ends and secure.

Shape Raglan
Row 2 (WS): Cast off 4 sts, patt to last 2sts, p2 - 58 (64, 70) sts.
Cont as set working in pattern with st st edging, dec 1 st at each end of every RS row until 28 (32, 36) sts remain ending on a WS row.Place these 28 (32, 36) sts on a stitch holder.

Shape Left Front Neck
Row 1: K2, skpo, k7 (9, 11), k2tog, k1, turn and work on these 12 (14, 16) sts for left side of neck.
Rows 2 and alternative row - purl all sts.
Row 3: K2, skpo, k5 (7, 9), k2tog, k1 – 10 (12, 14) sts.
Cont as set working in pattern with st st edging, dec 1 st at each end of every RS row until 2 sts remain ending on a RS row, p2tog and fasten off.

SLEEVES (BOTH ALIKE)

Rib row 2: P1, [k2, p2] to last 3 sts, k2 p1.

MAKING UP
With RS facing and using 3.5mm needles, re-join yarn at left shoulder, pick up and knit 8 (9, 12) sts down left side of neck, knit across 14 (16, 18) sts from front holder, pick up and knit 8 (9, 12) sts up right side of neck, 2 from right sleeve, k across 28 (32, 36) sts from back holder and pick up and knit 2 sts from top of left sleeve. (62, 70, 82) sts.

BUTTON PANEL
Using 3.5mm knitting needles cast on 3 (3, 3) sts.
Row 1: Knit.
Row 2: K1, p1, k1.
Row 3: K1, m1, k to last st, m1, k1 - 5 (5, 5) sts.
Row 4: K1, p to last st, k1.
Rep rows 3 and 4 to 11 (13, 15) sts.ending with a WS row.
Next row: Knit.
Next row: K1, p to last st, k1.
**Next row: K3, yfwd, k2tog, k to end.

For the hat, work in rib for 5cm and then work in st st for until work measures 15cm.

Booties (make 2)
Using 3.5mm needles, cast on 35 sts.
Row 1: *k1, p1* rep from *to* to last st, k1.
Row 2: *p1, k1* rep from *to* to last st, p1.
Rep rows 1 and 2 three more times.
Row 7: change to 4mm needles, k row.
Row 8: p row.
Rep rows 7 and 8 three more times.
Next row: (RS) k across row working through both the stitch on the needle and the stitch at cast on edge and working both sts together along the row - 35 sts.
Next row: (WS) p all sts.
Next row: k all sts.
Next row: p all sts.
Next row: k2, yf, k2tog, k to last 4 sts, k2tog, yf, k2 - 35 sts.
Next row: p all sts.
Next row: k24 sts, turn.
Next row: k13 and work in garter st for 16 rows on these 13 sts only.
Next row: (WS) k16, pick up 8 sts down the side of the instep then k 11 sts from left hand needle - 32 sts.
Next row: k32 st, pick up 8 sts down the side of the instep then k 11 sts from left hand needle - 51 sts.
Next row: work in garter st for 4 rows.

Shaping the foot;
k2tog, k16, k2tog, k11, k2tog, k16, k2tog - 47 sts.
k all sts.
k2tog, k14, k2tog, k11, k2tog, k14, k2tog - 42 sts.
k2tog, k12, k2tog, k11, k2tog, k12, k2tog - 38 sts.

Cast off, cut end, and fasten the yarn.

Back and Fronts

Using 4mm needles and A cast on 120 (124:130:134:140) sts.

Row 1 (WS): K to end.

Row 2 (RS): K to end.

Repeat rows 1 & 2 until piece measures 15 (16:16:17:18) cm, ending with WS (for girls), RS row (for boys).

Work Buttonhole Rows 1 (RS for girls and WS for boys), and 2.

Continue until piece measures 17 (18:18:19:20) cm from cast-on edge, ending with a WS row.

Left Front

Continue without shaping until left front measures 27 (28:29:30:32) cm.

Right Front

Neck Shaping

Continue without shaping until left front measures 27 (28:29:30:32) cm.

Large Basket

Using 4.5mm hook begin with a magic loop, ch3 and work 9trs into loop, join round with a ss. (10 sts)

Round 1: Ch3, 1tr into base of 3ch, work 2tr into each tr. Join with ss. (20 sts)

Round 2: Ch3, 1tr into base of 3ch, 1tr, rep [1tr, (2tr) into next st] to end. Join with ss. (30 sts)

Round 3: Ch3, rep [2tr, (2tr) into next st] to last 2 sts (2tr) into next st, 1tr. Join with ss. (40 sts)

Round 4: Ch3, 1tr into base of 3ch, 3tr, rep [3tr, (2tr) into next st] to end. Join with ss. (50 sts)

Round 5: Ch3, 1tr, rep [4tr, (2tr) into next st] to last 3 sts (2tr) into next st, 2tr. Join with ss. (60 sts)

Round 9: Ch3, 3tr, rep [8tr, (2tr) into next st] to last 5 sts (2tr) into next st, 4tr. Join with ss. (100 sts)

Round 10: Ch3, 1tr into base of 3ch, 9tr, rep [9tr, (2tr) into next st] to end. Join with ss. (110 sts)

Round 11: Ch1, 1dc into back of each st. Join with ss. (110 sts)

Continue working round 12 until work measures 17cm from round 11.

Rounds 28-32: Using Yarn D, 1dc in each st around, changing to Yarn A on last yrh of last dc of Round 32.

Round 45: *ch14, skip next 12 sts, 1dc in each of next 39 sts* rep from * to * once more.

Round 46: *12dc into ch space, 1dc in each of next 39 sts* rep from * to * once more.

Round 47: 1dc in each st around, slip stitch in next st to finish and weave in ends.

Front

Work 2 pieces the same – the stitch pattern is reversible.

Using 6.5mm needles and 1 strand each yarn A and Yarn B loosely cast on 18 (18: 20: 20: 22) sts.

Foundation Row: * YOS,k1; rep from * to end of row.

Row 1: * YOS, bk2tog; rep from * to end of row.

Repeat Row 1 for patt.

Continue in patt for 20 (21: 23: 25: 26) cm.

Shape front slope

Next Row: Work in patt to last 3 sts, bsk2p. Mark this place with a removable stitch marker.

Work 15 (16: 17: 18: 19) rows in pattern.

Rep decrease on marked edge and pattern rows as set two more times and at the same time when work measures 27.5 (29.5: 33: 36: 37.5)

Shape armhole by casting off 2 (2: 2: 4: 4) sts at opposite edge to stitch marker.

Keeping armhole edge straight, continue to decrease at front slope edge as set until you have 10 (10: 10: 10: 12) sts on needle.

Work straight until front matches back to shoulder.

Cast off.

Sleeves

The sleeves should be knit until there are 44 (44: 48: 48: 52) sts

Collar

Using 6.5m needles and 1 strand each A and B yarn cast on 7 (7: 8: 8: 9) sts.

*Work in garter stitch for 5cm.

Next row: Knit 2 (2: 3: 3: 3) sts cast off 2 sts, knit to end of the row.

Next row: Knit 3 (3: 3: 3: 4) sts cast on 2 sts, knit to end of row.

Rep from * a further 2 times.

Knit until work (when slightly stretched), fits up to start of front slope shaping as marked.

Shape collar to fit front slope
