Step 1

After printing out the free template, cut out the pieces and pin to your fabrics. Cut out all the fabric pieces.

Step 2

Take the outside middle piece and the outside left and right pieces, pin the sides right sides together and sew using 1cm seam allowance.

1. Press down the seam to the centre back.

2. Press the seams again on the right side.

Step 3

Take the inside pencil pocket piece, fold 0.5cm seam allowance down at the top and fold again. Top stitch along the folded seam

Step 4

Take the inside pocket piece, pin the pencil pocket piece on top. Using an erasable fabric pen, mark on the lines for the pen/pencil dividers.

1. Stitch down using a medium stitch length.

2 This has creative the pockets for your pens and pencils.

3. Fold over 0.5cm seam allowance on the right side, then fold over 1cm and stitch down.

Step 5

Take one of your inside back cover pieces and pin the pocket on top.

Stitch down the top of the pocket, this has created a side pocket. The fold over 0.5cm and 0.5cm again on the right side and top stitch. Repeat for the second inside back cover piece, this time stitching down on the left side.

Step 6

Take the outside piece you sewed earlier and pin the inside pieces to the edges, right sides together.

1. Using 1cm seam allowance, stitch the whole way round the piece.

2. Trim the corners.

3. Turn through, using something semi-sharp to make the corners sharp.

4. Press well.

Step 7

Place the cover on your notebook and add your pens or pencils to the pocket!

Step 8

Your notebook is then ready to use!

Once the notbook has been filled, simply slip the cover off and replace the used notebook with a fresh one.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Generally easy to make Having read previous comments transferred sizings into Cricut and resized and cut. Used off-cuts and scraps for this project and interfaced outer and inner covers. Also lined outside cover (middle, left, right sew together pieces). Fairly new to sewing but good project to do; and keeps all my scraps of paper notes together in the inside pocket!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Disappointed with the finished size. I loved the idea of this cover for a notebook but it doesn't fit a standard size exercise book.
