Project and how-to make instructions by Enfys Cashmore

Combine mixed media techniques to create a truly one-of-a-kind card this Christmas! Tim Holtz Distress Oxides are perfect for creating blended backgrounds and adding depth to cut cardstock elements on your Cricut machine, then complete the design with some glitzy Cosmic Shimmer glitter jewels.

How to make

Step 1

Cut a 6.5 x 4.5″ panel from white cardstock. Cut a 2″ (diameter) circle from light-tack adhesive vinyl using the basic shapes in Cricut’s Design Space app. Apply the circle onto the white cardstock panel, towards the top left-hand corner.

Top tip: Washi tape is ideal for this type of masking.

Step 2

Mask the edges of the panel as well, so that there is a small white border when the mask is removed.

Step 3

Start to ink the panel – I used Tim Holtz Distress Oxide inks, starting lightly with the Tumbled Glass ink pad around the moon mask, then Broken China, followed by Faded Jeans and Stormy Sky, gradually deepening the colour on the right-hand side of the panel. Place to one side to dry.

Step 4

Use your Cricut machine to write the word ‘Peace’ onto white cardstock. Freehand cut with scissors to create a curved snowbank. Trim two more snowbanks to layer behind the one with the greeting. Lightly ink along the top edge of the snowbanks with the Tim Holtz Broken China Distress Oxide ink pad. Place to one side to dry.

Step 5

Cut six tress from green cardstock in a variety of sizes.

Step 6

Add a little water to white acrylic paint, and flick onto the inked panel with the masks still in place, and the green cardstock trees. Leave to dry.

Step 7

Add tiny spots of glue to the cardstock trees, and sprinkle trees with glitter jewels. Leave to dry.

Step 8

Add a fine line of glue to the top edges of the three snowbanks, and sprinkle with Cosmic Shimmer glitter jewels. Leave to dry.

Step 9

Once the ink is completely dry on the elements, peel off the masks. Add the cardstock snowbanks onto the panel using double-sided tape, then add the trees, using 3D foam pads to add some to create dimension.

Step 10

Cut a deer from white cardstock and lightly ink the edges to add definition.

Step 11

Mount the completed panel onto a green piece of cardstock measuring 17 x 12cm using double-sided tape, then mount this centrally on to a white 5 x 7″ card blank.
