I've had a hoard of jar lids in my house for a while (after a recent glass jar making phase), quietly stowed away in one of the kitchen drawers waiting to be used, and inspired by the upcoming Olympic Games and the fantastic medals on offer, I thought I'd have a go at making some medals of my own. No medal would be complete without a bit of bling, and I couldn't resist covering mine in lots of glitter! These medals are great for both adults and kids (although adult supervision and help will be needed) and can easily be personlised with all sorts of things, from card and foam toppers to sequins and poms, the sky is the limit!

Jar lids in various sizes

Hairspray

Step-1

Gather up your jar lids, they don't have to be any particular size, but I found the larger lids worked better.

Step-2

Lay down some newspaper and spray the jar lids with white spray paint, make sure to do this in a well ventilated area, such as outside (adult supervision and help will be required here).

Step-3

Once completely dry, apply a layer of PVA onto one of the jar lids and cover with your chosen shade of glitter and then leave in a safe place to dry. Repeat this process with any other lids.

Step-4

Once the glitter has dried spray a fine mist of hairspray over the lids, this will help the glitter stay in place, make sure to do this in a well ventilated space, outside is best. (again adult supervision and help will be required here).

Step-5

Cut your chosen ribbon to roughly 45 centimetres in length, fold in half. Secure the ribbon to the lid using strong glue (like a glue gun) and leave to dry.

Step-6

Hints and tips: For an even glitzier medal, I cut a star shape out of glitter card and stuck it to the front of one of my medals, but you could cut out whatever shape you like, in any colour card, or even felt or foam.
