How To Knit A Children's Poncho

How to make


Make 2 (for front and back) Using 5mm knitting needles cast on 60 stitches Knit rows 1-6 Row 7 (right side) knit


Row 8 (wrong side) knit 7, purl to last seven stitches, knit 7 Repeat rows 7&8 until panel measures 45 cm from bottom edge. (As you knit the yarn will change colour tone to give the colour-block effect) Knit 7 rows Cast off


Layout front and back with wrong sides together and with the knit lying horizontally/widthways. The longer edges will be the ‘top’ and ‘bottom’ and the shorter sides will be the side seams/ arm holes. Sew up shoulder seams by mattress stitching 11 cm from the outer edge towards the middle on both sides, leaving the rest open for the neck.


Using circular 5mm needle Pick up and knit 58 stitches evenly around neckline and working back and forth with the circular needles knit 8cm of garter stitch (knit all stitches and rows) to create funnel neck. Sew up funnel seam


Sew up side seams 12 cm from bottom edge, leaving rest open Sew in ends
