These fun colourful bunny ear scrunchies are a great scrap buster. Why not mix and match the patterns to make one for every outfit!

A great project to sell at craft fairs, make gifts for easter or just for yourself. You can also modify the size of the bunny ear template to make them into tie top hairbands.

How to Make

Step 1

Cut a piece of scrap fabric 45x10cm. Fold in half lengthways, with right sides together.

Use your machine to sew a straight line down the long raw edge, leaving a 5-10cm gap towards one end, as pictured.

Step 2

Attach a safety pin to the short end of the scrunchie that is further away from the gap created in step 1. Use the safety pin to feed this end through the inside of the tube of fabric towards the other short end (closer to the gap). Remove the safety pin and line up the raw edges.

Step 3

Using a needle and thread, join the ends together with a small, neat running stitch around in a loop, roughly 1cm from the raw edges.

Step 4

Now pull the entire tube of fabric through the gap made in step 1. You should now have a ring of fabric with right side facing outwards.

Cut a 20cm long piece of elastic and attach a safety pin to one end. Insert the safety pin into the gap in the fabric tube. Keep hold of the other end of the elastic and feed the safety pin end all the way through the tube of fabric and back out the same gap.

Note: You will need to bunch up the fabric as you go around in order to be able to do this.

Step 5

Join the ends of the elastic together with your sewing machine. Stretch the fabric back out so that the elastic sits fully inside the scrunchie and then sew up the gap in the fabric, either by hand with a slip stitch or with your machine.

Step 6

Next make the bunny ears. To do this, first print off and cut out the template provided above and then use it to cut out two sets of ears from fabric.

Place the two pieces of fabric together, with right sides facing, and sew around the ears roughly 5mm from the edge. Leave a gap on one side in between the ears as pictured.

Cut small notches in the edges of the fabric all around the curved parts, taking care not to cut the line of thread you have just sewn. Now trim the pointed bit of fabric off both sides.

Turn the ears so the fabric is right side facing by pushing the ends all the way through the gap.

Sew the gap up neatly, either by hand or with your machine.

Step 7

Tie the bunny ears in a knot around your scrunchie, and your bunny ears scrunchie is now complete!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Bunnie scrunchies Photo for explanation for step 4 and 5 are incorrect. The photos need switching . But a good craft.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Incorrect Instructions I can see that you were advised a year ago that the photos are in the wrong order which will be confusing to anyone trying to make the scrunchies. For step 4 you need to have the photo currently in step 6. For step 5 you should have the photo currently in step 4. For step 6 you should have the photo currently in step 5! Get this sorted and it’s 5*!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good product ! I made this as a casual thing I wanted to sew! Really easy and fun I have made loads for family and friends! Only thing I will say is that the instructions aren’t entirely clear about first bit where you have to sew down the edge - it doesn’t say to leave a gap in the middle ! Really good would recommend

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very disappointed Very poor instructions that did not make sense. A waste of money buying the materials and my time. Will not use this website again. Very disappointed as Hobbycraft is a very good brand.
