How To Make

Step 1

Beginning in the middle of the sketchbook, secure a photograph from your summer day with a snippet of washi tape or coloured masking tape on either side of the image.

Top Tip: If you don't have any photos, you could use a ticket, receipt or leaflet instead.

Step 2

Plan out some words that summed up your day, a song that was playing in the car on your way out, or phrase that someone said in the day that was funny or memorable. You may wish to practise your lettering technique on some scrap paper before you write on your scrapbook page.

When you are happy with your letters you can begin to add them to your scrapbook page. If you feel you need some extra guidance, use a pencil and ruler to lightly draw some guide lines on your page first, and then write your words along the lines. Once the words are fully dry, rub out any pencil markings with an eraser.

Top Tip: With hand lettering, try to mix up the strokes and lengths to give the impression of brush strokes. Apply more pressure on your downwards strokes and less on the upward stroke for a more brush-like look, or you could elongate your normal handwriting slightly to give a more whimsical look!

Step 3

Add a border of folky flowers using the POSCA paint pens. Begin by drawing out leaf shapes in blue, and then fill them in as you go.

Add floral shapes in another colour at the top of your foliage stems. Add more foliage with a different colour using thin strokes to make fern shapes.

Once your paint is dry, add dots along the leaves in a white pen to give it a folky look.

Make seed head stems with the white paint pen by drawing curved lines from an original stem and adding circles at the top.

Finally, draw small circles wih lines coming from the centre of them in a yellow pen, to create small flowers in any blank spaces.

Step 4

Voila! Your summer-inspired sketchbook page is complete.
