Top tips for packaging your small business products

1

Do your research

Once you’ve created your beautiful products, sending them off in style is super important! Not only do you need to ensure they arrive safely, but you also want to ensure every customer is wowed by their order.

We’re big advocates for not needing to spend a lot of money on packaging to make it look good, so let’s break down our top small business packaging tips.

2

Easy, simple packaging

While it can be tempting to add all the bells and whistles to your packaging, we really encourage you not to. At the end of the day, you don’t want to spend big on embellishments that will only end up in the recycling.

When designed well, a simple cardboard box of your choice, some stickers, tissue paper and a postcard is more than adequate.

3

Sustainable packaging

According to the 2023 Buying Green Report, 82% of consumers showed a willingness to pay more for sustainable packaging. Not only are customers looking to support small businesses, but they also want to make sure their crafty purchases don’t contribute to creating waste.

Look to items like kraft boxes, recycled tissue paper, uncoated stickers and compostable products to set the sustainable tone for your next set of shipments.

4

Add some personality

Yes, brown kraft boxes aren’t necessarily the most exciting packing in the world, but this cost-effective, sustainable option is easy to put your own stamp on – literally!

Instead of looking at a kraft brown box as basic, why not add some pizzazz to your packaging? We’ve already mentioned stickers, but there are so many other options to try – from personalised stamps to custom tissue paper.

5

Packaging for everyone

If you have awkward-shaped items or posters and prints you want to protect during transit, fear not – there are a ton of cost-effective solutions out there.

Need tube packaging but not sure of the size? Order one of each size and have a play with what works best for you. This will really help to make sure the fit of your products looks made to measure.

We recommend posting items to yourself if you need to check the durability for more fragile items. It’s a great way to make sure they’ll make it to your customers in one piece without any stress.
