Good concept lacking in detail
Good size worktop but a bit deep for my lap and not enough beads in the undercushion for me to keep the surface flat. Consequently it tends to tilt downwards over my knees so my pens roll off as there is no ridge to hold them on! Recessed cupholder too small for my coffee mugs but would take a pencil pot if I could find one heavy enough not to tip over! Lovely bright white light really helps with close work but only stretches the depth of the traytop and moves in an arc so arm has to be upright to get light right across the tray. Also the fleecy cover under the tray is great in the winter as it acts like a blanket keeping the knees warm--not so good in a heatwave however!!

Brilliant tray with a light and a little holder
I had been debating about purchasing this tray. No idea why I held back. Brilliant investment and wished I’d bought it before. With my magnifying glass it has made my small needlework projects so much easier. Love this tray.
Everything in one place and comfortable on my knee while I worked in my chair in comfort.

Hobby laptray
The tray is very easy to get level on your lap because of the "bean bag effect" it has a good firm surface to work on and the light is very useful. The price is value for money at £12. A small inner tray is useful for small items, e.g. pins, but a deeper container that gave more support for bigger items, such as pens, glue sticks and craft scissors would be an excellent idea

Purchased Two and First one was Faulty
Liked the look of this as a convenient craft lap tray with a light source. The first one I bought when I got it home and inserted batteries for the light. The light immediately came on and the switch was in the off position(!) I pushed the switch to the on position then off but it permanently had the light on…. Clearly faulty as this shouldn’t be happening. I had to make a trip especially to Hobbycraft again to return it, a major inconvenience. I explained what the issue was and if I could have a replacement. I took a random one off the ‘shelf’ and the grey tray part was visibly cracked…I selected another and asked if the staff had batteries available to insert and confirm it worked as I didn’t want another trip to the store if it was faulty… staff said no, so I took a chance and when I got home it works as it should. The tray itself isn’t a solid construction so beware if you drop it, place something way too heavy on it or someone accidentally sits on it it will be liable to cracking. That being said if it’s properly used and cared for it’s a useful item. The inner polybeads bag is made from very thin fabric I’d recommend that this is made from stronger fabric… I’ll probably make myself a suitable bag to place the whole thin bag into as I’ve some cotton material left over from a project. Or maybe a mini pillowcase would also be ok? As I’d hate to have those beads spill out from a breach in that thin fabric. The zipper seems adequate enough. All in all I’m fairly happy with this, but disappointed that I had an initial faulty item which was cheerily replaced by the helpful friendly staff.
Saw it half price cheaper elsewhere but the shop selling it has a terrible track record for refunding / replacing items so for my peace of mind I preferred to purchase from Hobbycraft. Glad I did!

How have I manages so long without one?
I have never seen the need for a lap tray, but having bought one, I wish I had got one years ago! It fits snuggly between the arms of my chair and I can use it for all sorts of craft activities - even into the evenings when the light is not always so good! I use the 'cup holder' for pencils , rulers scissors etc so they are always at hand.

Good table but....
The table is good and the work area is big enough for most knee projects. The 8 led light provides a bright area about 5" across which can be moved around by the flexible stem however if you want to work on a larger area, (A4 page) the bright area can't be adjusted to illuminate the whole of the page at once. Maybe a different clip-on lens cover for the light would widen the focused light spot.
