Academy Phantom Kit
I needed a Phantom for a project. This one was easier to build than the Airfix version. Although I used the transfers from the Airfix kit on this model to make it a Royal Navy version rather than US Navy

Excellent Phantom kit - historic interest
I bought this Phantom kit for its historic significance. Callsign Showtime 100 was flown by the first Ace crew of the Vietnam War, and the US Navy's only Aces. I'd been looking for a kit of Showtime 100 for a long time.
So to the kit, it's superb, and can be built snapfit without cement. Moulded in white, grey and black plastic, it can be left unpainted, and is the only kit I've seen with stickers for markings, as well as decals.
But, I'm a modeler, so a lot more critical of quality - and wasn't disappointed.
Superb shape, recessed panel detail, and a full load of weapons. All good so far.
This Phantom kit is unique in my experience, by having a single piece upper fuselage, eliminating a join along the top. The only omission I noticed being cockpit decals for the instrument panels. My only modification during building, to omit the bombs, by cutting that part of the pylons off.
Painted by airbrush, the decals silvered, requiring considerable treatment. Two options in the decals, but for the same squadron at the same time - so no real difference.
I now have my copy of Showtime 100, does the US Navy?
No, it was shot down by a missile, just after the crew achieved their Ace status - fortunately ejecting into the sea, to be rescued.
I thoroughly enjoyed everything about this kit.
