Product recall notice
As part of Hobbycraft’s commitment to customer safety and following the confirmation of trace levels of asbestos in some samples of sand in three of our own-branded products, we immediately removed all products containing sand from sale in our stores and on-line. At the same time, we requested that suppliers whose products containing sand are sold under their own brands should provide us with an up-to-date asbestos test certificate.
On 6th February 2026 we were informed by these suppliers that two of their products have tested positive for trace levels of asbestos. The brands’ owners have removed the product from the market, and Hobbycraft has prioritised issuing the recall to its customers as advised by the OPSS. We anticipate additional Distributors and Retailers will be launching recalls as further instructions are provided to them.

- If the sand is still in its packaging, place in a heavy-duty plastic bag, double tape it securely, label it clearly and store in a secure location out of the reach of children.
- If the sand has been used, clean up sites where the product was used using wet cloths to avoid generating dust. Wear gloves and a mask. Double bag the sand, gloves, mask and cloths.
- Keep children and other people away from areas where the sand has been used until the area has been cleaned.
- Return the sand vials from the product to your nearest Hobbycraft store for a full refund.
