I am a complete hoarder when it comes to jars, no matter what the size, shape, colour or age I just can't get enough of them. There's so much they can used for, they are perfect for storage, using as tea light holders and everything in between.

For these jars I've used spray paint to decorate the outside of the jar, however, you could also use chalky paint and then sand slightly for that shabby chic look.

How to make

You will also need:

Spray paint – available in store (I used Plastikote Metallic Gold paint)

Striped Design

1. If you want to create a stripped design use Washi tape or a low tack tape to mask off the area you don't want to be covered in the paint.

2. Once happy with the design follow the instructions on the can and spray away!

Top Tip!…Make sure to ALWAYS spray paint in a well ventilated area.

3. Leave to dry and then carefully remove the tape.

4. Wrap twine around the neck of the jar, thread on your gift tag (See how to below) and then tie into a bow.

Swallow design

1. Draw out your swallow design (or other design you prefer) and cut out.

2. Cover the back of the design with a low tack double sided tape and cut to fit the template.

3. Remove the backing paper and secure to the jar.

4. Repeat steps one to three with the remaining swallows.

5. Once happy with the design apply the spray paint.

6. Leave to dry then carefully remove the paper templates.

7. Wrap twine around the neck of the jar, thread on your gift tag (See how to below) and then tie into a bow.

Creating the Gift Tag

1. Use a paper trimmer to cut your tag to the desired size. You could also cut an identical size tag from translucent paper and overlay this on top of the card stock to create a keepsake tag.

2. Use a hole punch to create a hole, and thread the twine through.

3. Apply alphabet stickers to the tag.
