Using a 6mm hook and holding 2 strands of yarn, ch8.

Set up row: 1dc into 2nd ch from hook, 1dc in each ch to end, turn. (7 sts)

Row 1: Ch1 (does not count as a st throughout), 1dctbl in each st to end, turn. .

Rep Row 1 until your crocheted piece measures 46cm.

Hold the last row and first row together, and making sure your piece is not twisted, dc through both layers to join the two edges. Do not fasten off. Turn your piece so the join is on the inside.

Next you will be working into the side edge (row-ends) of your crochet piece to create the top of the beret.

Change to 10mm hook. Work 60 dc evenly around the edge.

Work in a spiral, without joining each round.

Inc rnd: [2dc into next st, 1dc into each of next 5 sts] 10 times. (70 sts)

Next 10 rnds: 1dc into each st around.

Dec rnd: [Dc2tog, 1dc into each of next 8 sts] 7 times. (63 sts)

Next 2 rnds: 1dc into each st around.

Dec rnd: [Dc2tog, 1dc into each of next 7 sts] 7 times. (56 sts)

Next rnd: 1dc into each st around.
