How to Make a Pincushion Jar

These pincushion jars are so easy to make, and are a great idea for a simple but thoughtful present at Christmas time. Fill with a selection of sewing goodies according to your recipient – ribbons, thread, buttons, scissors, or whatever else you like!

How to make

Step 1

Measure four centimetres from the edge of the lid of the jar and cut out the circle on the fabric.

Step 2

Draw round the inner part of the lid on to cardboard and cut out.

Step 3

Repeat number 2 on the felt and use the pinking shears to cut around the edge.

Step 4

Using a needle and doubled up thread for strength, use a gathering stitch around the edge of the fabric.

Step 5

Fill the circle of fabric with stuffing, put in the circle of cardboard and draw the thread in and tie off.

Step 6

Gently push the stuffed fabric in to the lid of the jar.

Step 7

Using the glue gun glue the felt to the inside of the lid to hide the gathering.
