Best wood for my project.
Currently teaching myself the Japanese art of Kumiko, the most basic pattern, asa no ha , basswood is about the closest wood you can get to what the Japanese would use , nice straight grain, not too hard or soft.

Nice timber.
Takes a good stain, nice grain and burnished well with fine wire wool. Check for any splits or warp before purchase. Not usually a problem.
