Daler-Rowney Mixed Media Sketchbook A4

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best paper ever I Have to write this review, because in my personell opinion,it is the best paper for my drawing and watercolour painting I have ever come across. When I found this paper in Hobbycraft,it was on offer and I could see what a good price it was for so much paper,At the time the fact that it was "Mixed Media" paper wasn't the reason for my purchase,However, since buying it I have found that it really is of superb quality and I am absolutely thrilled with my purchase,I am so hoping that it wasn't on offer because it is no longer available because this would be a tragedy Thankyou Daler Rowney for this superb Mixed Media paper pad,I love it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Over all a good all round multi media psper Stood quality all round multi media paper. Rated as 4 stars because it is a multi media paper, jack of all trades but master of none. This is not being derogatory towards the paper because if you were going to do a specific picture you would probably purchase the right paper or surface. I use this paper because it is a good quality and used by children in my children's art groups. For 1 picture we may draw it in pencil, water colour wash it and the pen and ink over the top. This paper accepts this abuse without any issues and helps to produce good pictures. The paper is quite thick and does not cockle easily and when it does flattens out when dry or dried.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best Mixed Media sketchbook on the market I have been a mixed media artist since I began, and after trying many so called "mixed media" pads and finding that they weren't capable of handling most wet materials I tried this book and haven't looked back. This paper handles like a dream, the paper is thick enough to handle every material I have thrown at it (sometimes literally) and I have never faced a problem with buckling or feathering of the paper. The paper does have a fair bit of tooth, but in my experience that is more of a benefit than a hindrance. By only critique would be that they don't manufacture books with a vertical spine but after using these books exclusively for almost two years, that's something I can more than look past for such tremendous quality.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fabulous paper You really can use any medium on this paper. It even holds pastes and gels well. I love it. With watery washes the paper will bend, but it goes perfectly straight again when dry without any wrinkles in the paper. So you might want to tape it down for watery applications. Also, don't try to tear pages out of the spiral binder. The paper is too strong for that and you'll damage the page. Rather cut pages out with a scissors.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Products! Great all round sketch book for all mediums. Handy pencil that will mostly wash off for those unwanted lines under thin paint. The acrylic medium gives a silky sheen and helps the paints flow.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very versatile and very good indeed! The paper is thick and has a slight texture to both sides, a little more pronounced on one side than another, but both sides are equally useable. So far I've used collage and gouache and acrylics and it holds both those paints really well. I've also used ink from a steel nib and the paper doesn't catch the nib and the lines don't feather. The best thing about the paper is that it doesn't cockle or ripple when wet media is applied - it doesn't stay as supremely flat as the unused leaves, but the effect of water-based media is hardly noticeable and not at all distracting. I've even coated one page with acrylic gesso as I expect it will then be possible to paint with oils onto it, but I've yet to find out if that's a good idea as I'm not sure if a film of dried oil paint might cause the facing page of the pad to stick to it - just having that idea though indicates just how versatile the pad is. Even if I were to mess up a page I could work over it either by painting a layer of acrylic paint over it or pasting some other paper onto it. A great pad for experimenting with all sorts of media and ideas!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great pad just needs a better front cover This pad is for mixed media and it's great. I have them in all sizes but the constant issue is the front cover is so flimsy that you either made it harder or you rip it off and gesso a new cover. Apart from that these are great for all ages, from people who are just starting out to experienced artists!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for mixed media if you are a student. Fantastic quality of mixed media sketchbook for a student. I do mix media/collage and water colours and I am exploring mixed media a lot more through courses. When I do water colour using this paper I don’t use a lot of water on the page. I don’t know how much water this paper would be able to cope with and I would use proper water colour paper if I was doing that and stretch the paper out on a board as well. Best to get advice from a tutor if you have any concerns about the right type and weight of paper to use for the projects you are planning. I do a lot of art journaling and this is great. I use acrylic paint in layers, collage, sticklers, glitter, sequins, fabric stuck and also stitched into the page, water colour, pen and ink, gouache, embroidery thread stitch into the page, stabilisers, fixing sprays, pastels, found objects in nature that I can attach to paper, teabag papers dyed and dried, seeds, ribbons, sand, shells, markle oil bars paint in a stick form, wax crayons, colour pencils, water colour pencils, beads, wire, what ever I can find to create art with. I’m an ex City and Guilds student in stitched textiles art and design level 3, and we were taught to think out of the box and explore with anything we could get our hands on basically. I use this paper to explore on, and I am not concerned if the paper buckles. I’m not doing professional art.
