Do you need a different foot for quilting?
Yes, but I believe a singer sowing machine foot will fit the hobbycraft machine.

Anyone had problem with thread tension ?
Yes, I did. After much time trying to figure out why I found a solution to my problem. Instead of sitting my cotton reel horizontally on the holder at the back of my machine I sit it vertically on the top spike that sits just behind the spool winding wheel. Hope this helps for you too.

Can you embroider names and motifs
The machine doesn't have a facility to programme, if you did it would have to be free hand.
