Decorated box frames make lovely presents no matter what the occasion, and by personalising them using your Cricut machine they can be made truly one of a kind and cherished for years to come! Created using sheets of cardstock and with a personalised message, this is a great Cricut project for beginners to try their hand at.

How to make

Step 1

Open the Cricut Design Space app and open a blank canvas. Create a 20 x 20cm white square by clicking on shapes and adjusting the measurements.

Click on shape again and create a heart. Resize the heart to be 3cm wide, make sure the padlock is on.

Duplicate the heart 16 times and change the colours depending on how many colours you would like to include in the project.

Duplicate a heart again and resize to be 2cm wide.

Duplicate the smaller heart as many times as you would like to layer on top of the larger hearts. Click on shape and create a white box for your text.

Click on Text and search for the font Be Mine.

Type your chosen names and quote. I've used 'Life is better when we're together”.

Resize your text.

Click on Text and search for the font Algebra.

Type your chosen date.

Resize the text, at this point I resized the white box and removed a couple of hearts to allow the box to fit neatly in the corner of the design.

Place the text into the box so that it is central.

Select both the box and the text and attach together.

Check that you are happy with the design.

Follow the on-screen instructions to cut your card.

Step 16

Using a pencil, lightly draw a grid onto the larger piece of white card you have cut. Measure and divide by 4 for the width and by 5 for the height. This will make it easier to keep your hearts even when you are sewing.

Step 17

Line up your first heart with the guideline on the paper, place under the foot of your machine and carefully begin stitching.

One by one, stitch the hearts to the card.

Once you have completed your stitching, erase the pencil lines.

Step 20

Use foam pads to stick your name or message to the corner of your piece.

Step 21

Use foam pads on the back of your piece to stick to a piece of 12 x 12” backing card.

Step 22

Insert into your frame.
