Cricut: How to Create Slogan Pumpkins

Start by painting your pumpkins in your colour of choice. Don't be afraid to use a lot of paint as you'll need 2-3 coats to avoid it looking patchy.

Top Tip: Don't paint the stem of the pumpkin at this point as it'll make it easier for you to manoeuvre the decoration around whilst you get the main colour on.

Once you're happy with your main colour, it's time to paint the stem. For this pumpkin we've used a contrasting colour.

Using a smaller brush, paint the stem slowly and carefully, making sure to neaten up the lines between two colours.

Add some pops of colour by painting a range of pumpkins in different shapes and shades.

Next, open up Design Space, start a new canvas and, using the text tool, type in your first slogan.

When it comes to cutting your project, you want to ensure it will fit on the front of your pumpkin, so be sure to measure the space on the front and then update the size in Design Space so it isn't too big or too small.

Load up your Cricut Joy with your material of choice and click 'go'.

Weed your design and then, using a pair of scissors, cut each slogan so that you can work with them separately – this will avoid you picking up any letters from other phrases.

Now we're going to add your chosen slogan to your painted pumpkin. Make sure it's completely dry before you do this as you risk ripping off the paint.

Take your transfer tape and cut to size.

Carefully peel the backing off of the tape and using the grid, line the tape up with your text. Put it in place. Using your scraper tool, rub the transfer tape with medium pressure encouraging the letters to stick to the tape.

Then, lift the transfer tape off of the backing and ensure all the letters come with it. If they don't, simply lay the tape back down and comtinue to rub the transfer tape with the scraper tool.

We're going to add your slogan to the pumpkin line by line, so pick up your first line and place it on the pumpkin – be sure to take your time and make sure it's lined up nice and evenly.

Then, starting from the middle and working out, use your scraper tool to work your words into the grooves of the pumpkin and make sure everything is laid flat.

Once the design is laid flat, it can also be useful to just use your finger to rub over the top of each letter before you slowly peel away the transfer tape.

Repeat the above steps again with each line, one by one, making sure not to catch any of the other letters in the transfer tape – this can be tricky so take your time.
