Pattern Notes
This pattern is written using UK crochet terms.
You may need to adjust the number of increasing rounds based on the width of your can, ensure you measure as you go, taking into account the natural stretch of the yarn.
Using any DK yarn and 4mm hook, ch4. Slst into 3rd ch from hook to make a circle.
Rnd 1: Ch2 (counts as 1st tr), 11tr into centre of the circle, slst into top of ch2 to join. (12tr)
Tip: hold onto ring and push your stitches around towards the first chain 2, to make room for all 11 trebles. Use a stitch marker in the chain 2 to note the start of the round.
Rnd 2: Ch2 (counts as 1st tr), 1tr in same st, 2tr in each st around, slst into top of ch2 to join. (24tr)
Rnd 3: Ch2 (counts as 1st tr), in BLO 1tr in each st around, 1dc into top of ch2 to join. (24tr)
Rnd 4: *Ch5, skip 3sts and dc into 4th stitch* rep around, slst into bottom of 1st ch.
Rnd 5+: Loosely slst into 1st ch5-sp of previous round, *ch5, dc into next ch5-sp* rep this in continuous rounds until your holder is almost as tall as your can (remember that the weight of the can will stretch the yarn, so don't make it too big)
Penultimate Rnd: Ch1, 3dc into each ch5-sp around, slst into 1st dc to join. (18dc)
Final Rnd: Ch2 (counts as 1st tr), 1tr in each st around, slst into top of ch2 to join. (18tr)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Cross Body Strap
There are two ways to create a strap for your drinks holder.
Option 1
Ch400, fasten off.
Fold in half and attach firmly either side of the drinks holder.
Tie a knot at the top of the strap to adjust the length, remembering that the yarn will stretch with the weight of the can.
Option 2
Row 1: Ch6, 1tr in 4th ch from hook and in the remaining 2ch. Ch2 and turn. (3tr)
Row 2: 1tr in each st across. Ch2 and turn. (3tr)
Repeat row 2 until your strap is the desired length.
Fasten off and then use the tails to attach the strap onto either side of the drinks holder.
Your crochet drinks holder is now complete!
Why not make one to match each outfit this summer, or try adding a cute accessory and beads!
