Special Techniques:

To create a firmer, denser fabric, these shorts are made by crocheting into the spaces between stitches.

Gauge: 5 st = 1″ linear with a firm, even tension.

Step-1

Make 32 in total…

Square A: 10 x 3mm hook

Square B: 10 x 4mm hook

Square C: 12 x 4.5mm hook

Joining:Step-1

Using yarn C and yarn needle, take 2 of each sized square and sew together on WS using invisible join into a panel of 6 squares total. This panel is comprised of 2 of square A at the top, 2 of square B in the middle and 2 of square C at the bottom.

Step-8
Sew together on WS using invisible join between stitch markers, leaving an open seam between squares C of both sides.
3.-Step-3.jpeg?sw=554&q=85
Step-9
Repeat with remaining two 2×2 panels.
Step-10
STEP 4: You now have 2 pieces of work, one 6×6 and 1 4×4. Insert stitch marker into top and bottom ch-2 sp of each piece on one side. Sew together on WS using invisible join. Repeat on opposite side with the remaining open seam.
4.-Step-4.jpeg?sw=554&q=85
Step-11
STEP 5: The last two C squares will create the legs and gusset of the shorts. These squares will create leg holes by joining the front and back of the work like a little bridge. Use your stitch markers to line up your squares before sewing if you are unsure. (see pic)
Step-12
Start with the LHS. Take 1 square and insert stitch markers into top and bottom LHS ch-2 sp of both the square, and also the top and bottom RHS ch-2 sp of the open seamed square on work.
5.-Step-5.jpeg?sw=554&q=85
Step-13
Sew together between stitch markers WS facing with invisible join. Turn work over and repeat on the back side of the shorts.
Step-14
Repeat on RHS leg with final square.
Step-15
Now join the open top edges of both these squares to form the gusset by sewing WS facing with invisible join.
