Step 1
Draw around the lid of the Mache Box onto a sheet of Water Colour Paper, then cut this out with scissors.
Step%201.jpg?sw=680&q=85
Step 2

Cut a few strips of Water Colour Paper that will fit around the circumference of the lid. They need to measure 4cm by however long you want your seams to be.

Draw and fussy cut a wavy edge then score at 1cm on the opposite edge.

Tip: If you have large sheets of Water Colour Paper you may not need to have seams.

Step%202.jpg?sw=680&q=85
Step 3
Snip into each strip from the edge to the score line creating a fringe, then fold up the fringe and set aside.
Step%203.jpg?sw=680&q=85
Step 4

Trim three more strips of paper exactly the same size as in step three, only this time have them measure 3cm wide.

Use a small circular object to draw around and cut a scalloped edge along one side of each piece.

Step%204.jpg?sw=680&q=85
Step 5
Glue the fringe strips to the scalloped edge strips ensuring the fringe sits just below the scalloped edge. Trim the opposite edge to match the wavy design of the fringe layer.
Step%205.jpg?sw=680&q=85
Step 6

Wrap and glue the prepared strips around the edge of the lid (with the scallop at the top and the fringe glued to the lid top). Then glue the prepared circle from step one in the centre. This will create the effect of an iced cake top.

Step%206.jpg?sw=680&q=85
Step 7

Prepare the icing balls by punching out approximately 90 1” circles.

Fold each circle in half then glue the halves together in batches of five, like pages in a book.

Step%207.jpg?sw=680&q=85
Step 8
Fix the icing balls around the lid edge - leaving approximately 5mm between each one.
Step%208.jpg?sw=680&q=85
Step 9

To create the cake toppers: fold a sheet of A4 Tissue Paper in half long ways, turn and fold again, then again ending up with a smaller rectangle.

Snip into the tissue, approximately two thirds of the way down, then carefully roll the tissue piece up and fix it into the end of a coloured paper straw.

Step%209.jpg?sw=680&q=85
Step 10

Take two more coloured paper straws and cut them down so they are about an inch shorter than the previous topper.

Place the straws in to a V shape and snip the bottoms straight, glue the 'Hip Hip Hooray' sentiment to the top of the V.

Step%2010.jpg?sw=680&q=85
Step 11

Cut a small square of Yellow Tissue Paper approximately 1” x 1”, fold in half, turn fold and fold again then fussy cut an oval flame top into the tissue piece. Slightly roll the other end then put into a piece of paper straw trimmed down to 2”.

Tip: Coil up small pieces of paper to place in the ends of the straws, this will make attaching them sturdier when attaching to the cake top.

Step%2011.jpg?sw=680&q=85
Step 12

Use Wet Glue to attach all the toppers and candles to the cake top.

Starting with the green ruffle puff, glue the base then place into the centre of the cake, hold there for a minute or two until it starts to adhere.

Glue the Wooden Numbers onto the 'Hip Hip Hooray' straws. Then, attach them just in front of the ruffle straw, followed by the five candles.
