Step 1

First, decorate the mache house by painting the outside of the house using black acrylic paint. Leave the roof and inside of the door unpainted for now. Once dry, apply another coat of black paint if necessary.

Step 2

Next paint the inside of the door green and the roof and base purple. Again, once dry apply another coat or 2 of paint if its patchy.

Step 3

Once the base colours are dry, start adding detail to your house. Add dripping slime details to the windows and door frame using green paint and a thin paintbrush.

Step 4

Using white paint and a thin paint brush, paint cobwebs and spiders on the roof and front of the house.

Step 5

Add detail to the roof by painting small square shapes on the roof with black paint to look like tiles.

Step 6

To make your spooky Halloween figures, using acrylic paint, paint 2 figures white and 3 figures black with white heads.

Step 7

To make the ghosts, paint 3 black circles on the heads of each white figure to make the eyes and mouth. Using the tip of a thin paint brush, dab a tiny dot of white paint on each eye to add a highlight.

Step 8

To make the skeletons, using black paint, paint 2 circles for eyes, a triangle for a nose and a zip zag line for a mouth. For the body, paint lines across the front of the figure to look like bones and lines down the side of each figure for arms using white paint.

Step 9

To make the pumpkin patch, start by cutting out a wonky oval shape out of brown felt. You can make this as big or as small as you like. This will be the soil for the pumpkin patch.

Step 10

Next make the pumpkins. Separate the orange light weight clay into small pieces and then roll each piece into a ball.

Step 11

Tear off tiny pieces of black clay and roll them between your fingers to make small sausage shapes. Carefully join these to the orange clay balls to make a stem by gently pressing the two pieces together at the base of the stem. Wrap the remaining black clay up so it doesn’t dry up.

Step 12

Add detail to the pumpkins by using the end of a lolly stick to create lines in each pumpkin. Work quite quickly as once the clay starts to dry, the clay won’t hold the line shapes.

Step 13

Finally, make the fence by painting 22 lolly sticks black. Once dry, arrange 7 in a line. Have some pointing different ways to make the fence panels look crooked.

Step 14

Then glue 4 lolly sticks horizontally across the 7 lolly sticks to complete the fence. Make another fence panel in the same way using the remaining 11 painted lolly sticks so you have 2 fence pieces in total.

Step 15

Once the glue has dried, take the remaining black clay left over from making the pumpkins and separate into 6 equal size pieces. Roll into ball shapes.

Step 16

Finally, push the two-end lolly sticks and the middle lolly stick of each fence piece into a ball of clay. This will help the fence to stand up once dry.

Step 17

Once everything is dry, your playset is finished. Why not arrange the set on a couple of pieces of felt or foam to look like grass.
